A-League Rights 2021/22 - 2025/26

I think the FFA run those rights negotiations

The FA are focusing on the International rights, then they will look at the Australia Cup rights. Rumors are however that they will put them on an in house streaming service, working title FATV.

Fat Arse TV? Fuck All TV?

I know it’s meant to be Football Australia TV, but FATV is funny.

In response to this, the new potential line up would be:

Every A-League/W-League game live on Paramount+
Saturday Night A-League on 10
Friday Night A-League on 10Bold
Sunday Afternoon W-League on 10
One A+W Elimination Final Live on 10
One A+W Semi Final Live on 10
A+W Grand Final Live on 10

That is a great lineup. When was the last time A-League Grand Finals were live on FTA?

The last deal with 10…

I thought it was delayed?

No, that’s on the ABC so they can edit all the ads out. It was live on 10Bold.

That appears to just be extracts taken from the TV Blackbox article, posted by an unofficial account.

The preceding tweet was this:

Good decision by 10 (as much as soccer is still a niche sport in Australia compared to AFL/NRL/Cricket/Tennis etc.) to go for soccer. They desperately need to prop up their woeful Saturday night schedules and whilst it might not do magnificently as they hope initially, it should give them some semi-decent shares in the long-run instead of the sub-8% shares they get on most Saturdays with endless Ambulance and 999 encores.

Confirmation is clearly imminent - Melbourne Victory just shared this image on Facebook:

And as someone mentioned before, the BBL was a niche-ish league (although only 2 years old) when 10 took the rights, and within a few years they had transformed it into a money making juggernaut (although it has fallen since the move to Fox/7). Hopefully they can have even half of that impact on the A-League.

… couple of interesting lines from the SMH story …

The APL has also agreed to share responsibility for broadcast production, a move rarely undertaken by major sporting competitions in Australia.”

and …

The deal includes a significant portion of contra and advertising support

Hmmm…

Could we see games being APL produced, with 10 talent? Or the other way around?

The deal guarantees one A-League match each week, on Saturday nights, will be broadcast live on Ten’s main channel for the duration of the agreement, preceded by a magazine-style discussion show - ensuring a level of free-to-air coverage hitherto only dreamed of in the league’s 16-year history.

The other five A-League games each round will be behind a paywall on Paramount+, which is aiming to use football as the cornerstone of its launch in Australia, where it will be available for $8.99 per month from August 11.

One W-League match each week, on Sunday afternoons, will also be shown on Ten’s secondary channel, 10Bold, with both free-to-air matches to be syndicated on 10Play, the network’s free streaming service.

I wonder if 10 will introduce an additional fee to access sport through Paramount+ similarly to Stan Sport, or this a bonus for the previously announced $8.99 per month.
