Almost positive she’s never presented it before, would be amazing if she got the gig having never done a day on the program, kind of an insult to the hard workers like Deb Knight and Dimity Clancey for example.
Daily Tele article also says that Allison Langdon is keen, looking for more family friendly hours and flexibility.
Another interesting quote from the article:
Nine bosses have reportedly told all contenders they plan to take the show back to what it once was, with grittier, “gotcha”-style stories plus more politics and a program more aligned to what 60 Minutes also used to be.
True, but Deb easily has another 10-15 years of work life ahead (around the same age when Grimshaw stepped in). I’ld also be surprised if traditional television / ACA at 7pm is still around in 10-15 years time.
Haha Nine keeps trying to make Sarah Abo happen… I don’t get it. She’s a mediocre presenter, struggled during the debate and would be a terrible choice as host of ACA.
Heard that before. They trot out that line about beefing up the show’s content every time they “revamp” after heavy criticism or they get a new host. They do some worthwhile reporting- Simon Bouda’s crime reports and Dimity Clancy’s human interest stories come to mind- and get good results for “little people” battling bureaucracy, but scam artists, dodgy tradies and neighbourhood disputes have been the bread and butter of the show for decades. I can’t see it changing that much.
Sarah Abo is a worthy contender and has some impressive credits to her name. Her only mis-step has been that leadership debate. Nine should be sensitive about lack of diversity in their presenter line up and her appointment would be a step in addressing that.
The Sunday Telegraph article also mentions Sarah Harris but Nine having “doubts” about re-hiring her. Looks like the curse of channel Ten, the network that destroys careers, has struck again. She’s a star but she’s languished for far too long on a show that has become an industry joke. She should’ve extricated herself from the role when they forced her to dance for her supper.
Langdon would be good. But what about Today?
She could grill all those federal and state Labor politicians.
Yep, they even said that with Today Tonight when Helen took over. It’s just a promotional push.
In fairness… not really her fault. They positioned her in the wrong spot for the debate where it was hard to control.
A return to politics and 60 Minutes rstyle reports
This post from 2 weeks ago - don’t mess with the neighbours from hell formula. I suspect if they do, it will revert fairly quickly after ratings fall.
I recall a couple of years ago Tracey also promised something similar including her doing more interviews.
Remember what the revamp of TT was going to be under Helen Kapalos. I was so looking forward to her tenure. The harder hitting stores lasted a few weeks and then the tabloid / super saver stories returned as ratings fell and you could clearly see Helen wasn’t as enthused as it’s like she was sold a lemon.
As Tracy has said, ACA rates because it’s what people want to see, they aren’t going to overhaul a show that wins its time slot nightly. Why would you?
Sarah has very little presence in Melbourne - Deb Knight would be a far more known and popular personality in Melbourne and at least would have the perception of working her way into the role instead of being parachuted in having never worked on the show & being unknown to the shows audience.
I think the clue will be who is filling in currently and will continue to fill in throughout the rest of the year. With that logic i think it will be deb in the main chair with Dimity Clancy doing the friday and saturday. Just my guess so far.
I’d love to see Dimity get the Saturday role.
I’m not sure why we are calling it the Fri/Sat role.
Whoever gets it will surely do Monday- Friday? Deb only started doing Fridays this year cause Tracy wanted to leave last year but they convinced her to stay one more year so she moved to 4 days.
Dimitar Clancy has filled in most days this week.
Still had that awesome set though ![]()
Part of it was definitely her fault. Just like they are for the candidates participating in it, election debates can (and have) make or break a moderator. I like Abo but she allowed Morrison and Albanese to walk all other her that night.
As for the ACA gig, Knight is the ‘natural’ successor considering she’s familiar with both viewers and the show’s format. As such, it would be a seamless transition from Grimshaw to her whereas Abo would be more of a risk.
But the question is “Does she actually want it”. Natural or not. She may be happy with her radio show.
I’d say if she got ACA that she would still do her radio show. It’s very possible. She finishes at 3pm. Plenty of time to do ACA.
I don’t think you realise people don’t just show up to read an auto cue and take a few calls. Things take preparation for radio as they do ACA.
She likely gets into 2GB in the morning, then finishes at 3pm .
She would be looking at minimum a 10 hour workday 5 days a week which really isn’t sustainable with young children.
I realise it’s not all walk in walk out work but Deb has shown in the past she’s not afraid of hard work. All I’m saying is that if she really wanted both worlds it’s not entirely impossible.
