61st TV Week Logie Awards 2019

Exactly.

There are local newsreaders who at times get more viewers in just one metro market than Celebrity Name Game gets across all five, yet you don’t hear them complaining about how they’ll never win a Logie…

Another slow news day for Nine News Gold Coast?

The Logies have taken over from the usual tour inside a luxury apartment for ‘news’ this week.

It’s called The Star Gold Coast so they downplay the casino aspect a bit. Interesting that Nine wrongly calls it Star Casino.

Imagine if Roger Corser won the Gold Logie? There has been almost no talk of him being nominated since the nominations have come out. No campaign for him to win either (from I know of). Okay, I don’t actually think he will win, despite being a good actor. But its the quiet ones you sometimes have to look out for. haha.

Also, here’s an article with TVWEEK/Logies editor regarding the Hall Of Fame and a possible chance of a revamp? https://tvtonight.com.au/2019/06/tv-hall-of-fame-may-face-logies-revamp.html

There is a campaign on 9 for Rodger Corser, I saw it while watching something on 9Life yesterday.

It featured the hosts of the logies, David Campbell, Sylvia Jeffreys and Leila McKinnon saying something like “Rodger that”.

There you go. Mistake from my end.
I just haven’t seen much Roger Corser talk online in the lead up to the awards.

You could be forgiven for not seeing it, they definitely haven’t put much effort in IMO.

Probably the one thing that still has some credibility in the Logies is the Hall of Fame. I don’t know how they’ll go about revamping it without turning it into a ‘you get inducted, and you get inducted, and you get inducted’ (thank you Oprah).

It also raises the question about why the people who were inducted after their death weren’t inducted while they were alive.

Perhaps they can increase the number of inductees to a maximum of two per year, but any more than that would detract from what I believe is a highly regarded award.

I’ve always liked the idea of 1 Male, 1 Female & 1 Show per year for the hall of fame.

While that could work, I think it could eventually end up with people or shows getting inducted just to fill the 1/1/1 criteria.

Perhaps they should change the criteria, for example, make it that you need to have had a minimum of 15 years service, or for a show that has run for at least 15 years.

If I’m not mistaken, the only shows that have been inducted into the Hall of Fame have been Four Corners, Neighbours, Play School, Home & Away and 60 Minutes?

Probably fair enough to have those shows in the Hall of Fame for their significant contributions to Australian TV over a number of decades, however the latter two might’ve been a bit more contentious at a time there’s a push to have more women in the Hall of Fame.

Neighbours was inducted after 20 years, H&A after 27 years and 60 Minutes after, was it 40 years?

I think they need to be careful of kneejerk reactions. Case in point is Brian Naylor. He was mainly known in Victoria, retired in 1998 and sadly passed away in the Black Saturday fires in 2009. In 2010 he was inducted in the hall of fame.

Similarly with Steve Irwin. He’d definitely done a lot on the world stage, and locally his show ran for about 10 years, but to be honest a lot of people in Australia thought he was a bit weird with his antics. It wasn’t until after his death that he received most of his well deserved respect.

Especially 60 Minutes.

Yeah, Brian Naylor was only known in Sydney as the host of Brian and the Juniors on Seven, for anyone who remembered that show, and as the host of Nine’s Carols by Candlelight.

If there’s a place in the TV Week Logies Hall of Fame for Brian Henderson (who aside from Bandstand in the 1960s, probably wasn’t that well known outside of Sydney/NSW), there should be one for Brian Naylor too!

I could imagine Hitchener and/or Overton getting a place there in about 20 years time (if the Logies are even still going by then), but for now I think the Logies Hall of Fame would probably benefit from a few more inductees outside the fields of news & current affairs.
