Absolutely amazing to hear that Lee Lin Chin has been nominated for the awards of both Best Presenter and the Gold Logie. Hopefully she wins it!

As for Gogglebox being nominated for the award of Best Factual Program, well the May 11/12 episode of that show will certainly be quite interesting…

Nice to see Stan getting its first nominations. Surprised to see Lee Lin Chin nominated for most popular presenter let alone the Gold Logie!
I think this is one of the most competitive Logies in recent history. There are only 3-4 categories in which there is a clear winner.

FOXTEL SCORES A RECORD 19 NOMINATIONS!
58th Annual TV WEEK Logie Awards

Foxtel has secured a record 19 nominations for this year’s TV WEEK Logie Awards, including 13 for its internationally celebrated Australian dramas and 2 for its acclaimed news and sports coverage, as the shortlist for television’s “night of nights” was announced in Melbourne today.

Foxtel Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh said: “This incredible haul of nominations for the TV WEEK Logies is a landmark moment for Foxtel. This firmly re-enforces our commitment to producing a wide range of Australian content for our subscribers, across drama, lifestyle and entertainment, as well as news and sport.

“It is particularly rewarding to see our diverse drama slate celebrated so comprehensively. We strive to provide our customers with a rich offering of Australian drama that matches our incredible international line-up, and we congratulate our channel partners, producers, creatives and casts on this significant achievement. The five nominations for one of our record-breaking success stories, A Place to Call Home, is a wonderful recognition of the series joining Foxtel. This is a very proud moment for the company,” he said.

SoHo’s local drama series A Place to Call Home and Wentworth have secured eight nominations between them.

A Place To Call Home spans both the popular voted (Best) and peer-voted (Most Outstanding) sections with nominations for both Best Drama Program and Most Outstanding Drama Series recognising the success of its third season which was also its debut on the Foxtel’s slate.

A Place To Call Home cast nominees are Marta Dusseldorp for Best Actress, Jenni Baird for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress and David Berry for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor. The cast is in production on a fourth season to premiere in September.

Wentworth’s riveting third season is nominated for Most Outstanding Drama Series. Pamela Rabe is nominated for Most Outstanding Actress and Celia Ireland is nominated for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress. Wentworth’s fourth season will launch on May 10.

showcase channel’s Deadline Gallipoli is honoured with a nomination for Most Outstanding Mini-Series or Telemovie and Hugh Dancy is up for a Most Outstanding Actor Award for his performance as Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett. For his breakthrough role as Deadline Gallipoli’s Charles Bean, Joel Jackson had already been announced as a nominee for Most Outstanding Newcomer – Actor and further recognised with a second nod in the same category for his lead role in Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door for the Seven Network. Today he was announced as the Most Outstanding Newcomer – Actor winner for his performance as Peter Allen and also revealed as a nominee for Best New Talent, recognising his popularity across both the television productions premiering in 2015.

BBC FIRST’s colonial drama Banished earned Ryan Corr a nomination for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor.

SKY NEWS continues to cement its position at the epicentre of Australian political coverage and is a nominee for Most Outstanding News Coverage for its reporting on Liberal Leadership Crisis: Abbott v Turnbull.

FOX FOOTY’s news breaking and headline grabbing AFL 360 is nominated for Best Sports Program.

The LifeStyle Channel’s hit series Selling Houses Australia is a nominee for Best Lifestyle Program and Gogglebox Australia, which premieres on Foxtel, has landed a nomination for Best Factual Program.

The Comedy Channel’s sketch series Open Slather is recognised with a nomination for Most Outstanding Comedy Program.

NICK Jr.’s Play Along with Sam is up for Most Outstanding Children’s Program, the highly regarded early childhood series was previously nominated in 2014.

I think this might be a very controversial nomination. Wasn’t Seven’s coverage of the Paris Terror Attacks universally panned on social media?

the flag bungle on the screen was panned, the coverage itself was what i would expect from a a commercial broadcaster. didn’t think it was anything amazing.

interesting nominations in Gold Logie. I mean I love some of the people in there but they don’t really set the ratings world on fire… especially over at Ten.

I agree. Seven wouldn’t be too happy that not a single one of their personalities was nominated for the Gold Logie, that’s for sure.

Essie Davis…I actually hadn’t heard of her before she was nominated for the Gold Logie last time! Probably the most dubious nomination of them all.

Great to see Lee Lin Chin nominated for both the Gold and Best Presenter. She’s a great newsreader and great in her sketches over on The Feed. This is the first time that someone from SBS has been nominated for these awards. Well done Lee Lin.

Is this the first time that a newsreader has been nominated for the Gold?

Surprisingly, there’s not as many Home and Away stars up for awards compared to previous years (thankfully… to those who aren’t fans of the show like myself).

Great to see Gardening Australia finally get a nod for Best Lifestyle.

Dan Reilly from the Block gets nominated for Best New Talent? Sigh!

Not surprised no Seven personality was nominated for Gold. They don’t bother running campaigns for any of their stars during the voting period. The Project ran vote promos pretty much every night so not surprised both Carrie and Waleed both got nominated and Nine always pushes Scott Cam for Gold so again no surprise with his nomination.

I have many problems with the Logie Awards but one of the biggest ones is the Gold Logie title being the “Best Personality on Australian TV”. It’s time TV Week either live up to the title of the award by having an expert panel select the nominees and the winner being chosen by their peers (to outline one model) or admit that the award is a ‘People’s Choice Award’-like popularity contest both in terms who gets nominated and who wins.

This isn’t a criticism of the six people who are nominated but rather the award itself

Certainly some surprises there. I thought the Lee Lin Chin campaign was just being done for a laugh but it was serious?

It’s crazy that Tim Minchin is nominated twice in the Most Outstanding Supporting Actor category, so in effect he’s competing against himself. If it’s an acting award shouldn’t all his roles and votes be combined? Then a fifth actor has an opportunity to be nominated, as happens in every other category.

Until last year, those awards were known as “Most Popular” awards which were less confusing than having both “Best” and “Most Outstanding”. Most people would have no idea which of those is voted by a panel of peers.

The on-line stream of the noms was a good idea but it wasn’t very popular - I think the count said there were 210 people watching - perhaps everyone interested was in the room - Waleed could be seen in the front row.

interesting that APTCH season 2 had zero nominations but season 3 now has 5. I’m pretty sure the consensus is that season 2 was the best season by far.

The Logies seem to find new ways to be inconsistent every year, why do some actors have multiple titles to their name in a single nomination and others hog 2 noms?
Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell is considered a comedy and Charlie Pickering is considered entertainment? surely they should be in the same genre. I thought the whole point of reviving a comedy award was so that the sitcoms didn’t have to compete against entertainment shows and vice versa. Gogglebox should definitely be in entertainment, not factual.

I think the part I am most interested in is seeing which old white man is inducted into the hall of fame.

Yep and I wouldn’t be surprised if the campaign garnered enough support to see her take home the Gold Logie.
Surprised to see Waleed nominated. He is very divisive.
Grant Denyer has really come into his own since joining Ten. I for one thought he’d made a huge mistake joining the network and never thought Family Feud would be a success. Scott Cam nominated again for being an ocker who writes on a blackboard.
As for the acting nominations, Julie Morris?? She is absolutely cringeworthy in House Husbands.

I thought that the Logies themselves were just being done for a laugh in recent years. But I take your point!

I agree. I think being nominated for two presenter-based Logies might be historic enough for a SBS presenter, if LLC won one or both social media would probably go into a meltdown!

Those Gold nominees are an absolute joke. We always it but it’s time to give these awards up. It’s even more laughable now.
