Might it actually be possible that 2SM finds someone who will “get stuck into both sides of politics” when they deserve
it? I’m not a fan of talk radio and was not a fan of Derryn Hinch but he at least blasted both sides when they needed it. I get sick of all the so called right wing commentators spreading their version of events mainly for ratings. And if anyone wants to tell me the ABC is left wing direct me to the program and presenter responsible for your view and I’ll become a talk radio fan!
Marcus name has been taking off 2SM’s website. Given the record of 2SM updating the website is very slow (they still advertise the LG DAB phone long after it was no longer being stocked) that was pretty quick!
Who else is could the dig up? Brian Carlton, Mike Jefferies, George Moore, Stuart Bocking, poach Steven Price so he is on analog radio again, Tim Webster from 2CH. There is plenty of choice from the old 2UE days.
Still disappointed but I guess need to move on.
By chance I also viewed the 2SM website this morning to check removal of MP. Eeewww … I had forgotten what a fruggly shite site BOG “maintain” (cough) for 2SM supposedly the network flagship. No proper landing/ home page, just a bunch of scrolling dodgy photos of presenters and links to JL show & Talkin Sport podcasts. Rubbish first gen graphics none of which match. The whole look and feel is like using a 2G mobile. We know that Marcus slaved away mightily with bugger all support or resource. But really if 2SM have any plans for a breakfast replacement of any profile, the place needs a massive overhaul to escape the museum its been stuck in since Bill bought the joint in 1999. That grand callsign 2SM (now in its 91st year) deserves so much better. Sigh …
Would SCA potentially be able to do a deal to get Australia Today on 2SM, rather than having to poach Price.
Certainly would be smarter than risking Jones once his non-compete is up, and cheaper than making their own show.
A Cheaper option would be to convert back to music and fill the gap left by 2CH. Adopt the Magic 1278 log or have a go at “Rock of the 80s - 2SM”.
Yeah Rock of the 80s would be a safe option. I’d like a more rock/pop upbeat format… If you like top 40 format but from the 60s - 90s with some new music thrown in. The Congo Line from Braidwood FM is the sort of format that could work, but add a few more 60s 70s hits thrown in and the odd easy hit as well.
It’s Better to follow 4KQ’s Lead for 2SM to Convert to a Traditional Classic Hits Format as their Talk Format is Woeful compared to 2GB.
Some good ideas above people. Unfortunately the sad reality is 2SM will likely change little. At least Marcus was having a go and trying to put some effort into providing an alternative in the Sydney market. Unless they bring in a name on breakfast and make some other changes the joint will just plod along in blissful ignorance trapped in a time warp. John Laws apart ( a true professional and an icon ) there ain’t much else sadly. I read somewhere that BOG is basically a property play for Bill. Perhaps the radio stations in the properties are just incidental to the cause … may as well be a chain of dry cleaning shops in that case. Really hope I’m wrong but at least in Sydney it seems 2SM will remain pretty much a waste of a broadcasting licence.
An interesting perspective from someone who has known Marcus Paul for a while and worked against and with him …
Judy read this article after it was shared via TRGR on Facebook and I have to say it is certainly a well written article and can’t fault any comments made in it.
Certainly makes you think about the situation surrounding @Marcus_Paul
I know that one particular mornings presenter told one of he’s listeners to #$@*’&#@ off on air recently completely un called for. When you compare it to what happened with Marcus Paul it’s disgusting behaviour. This person probably won’t have management say a single thing about it. All the best for the future Marcus
I was thinking that myself
Why can’t WIN Corporation by the Super Network and Intergrate them into WIN’s Assets?
Bill’s assets aren’t for sale. SCA would make a strong offer for most of the stations and maybe ARN the others and who knows for 2SM itself.
SCA have made approaches in the past to buy the Super Radio Network, but it didn’t get any further than that because Bill wasn’t interested in selling.
Shall we start a Petition to 2SM to play More Classic Hits and Upgrade their Streaming Equipment???
Won’t happen Bill does not like paying Royalties so they will stick with a talk format and play the bare minimum of music, on their 40+ stations. It has been proven in the case of Marcus Paul, no resources, no support, throw their staff under the bus if they stuff up.
Bill is getting along now, what happens to his network when he and his wife pass away, will it be put up for sale or passed down to siblings?
I don’t think they would really care, I reckon they’d be somewhat surprised that we even care.
He has at least 1 child. Doubt there’s a succession plan in place.
Say it’ll be broken up and sold off. SCA couldn’t buy the two stations in Newcastle for example.
I would love to see some sign … any sign … of progress at 2SM / BOG. But alas its highly unlikely under the current ownership. As I mentioned above I think it will just keep plodding along in its own archaic ways. Reminds me of those movie scenes (was it Monty Python?) in the bowels of an old ship with the rows of slave labour rowing along under the tyranny of the master. Does 2SM / BOG even have any management for content? I googled 2SM content director and program director … all I really got was an article about 2SM program director Ian Walker leaving the station in 1999 to go to Vienna. Hey 1999… that’s when Bill bought 2SM. Maybe that says it all …
