For at least 2-3 years? 2CH has had both an MP3 stream (2gb.com url) and an AAC+ stream (m3u8 playlist), the latter I think launched with the phone app.

Does anybody have a copy of the theme tune of the 2CH intro into the Macquarie National News that used to play? It would be quite nostalgic to hear, and I canāt seem to find it anywhere. Sounded like very high chimes.

Obviously the version which aired on 2CH was shorter/edited, but I think this is the track youāre looking for:
āLatest Newsā by Bernd Roger was used as 2CHās news theme for quite a long time - from (at least) 1998 until 2014.

With those numbers in mind, thatās a significant chunk of 2CHās listenership that has been displaced by the decision to shift Classic Hits to DAB+ only in favour of Sport on 1170AM!
Still, are 2UE doing that much better? Sure their ratings went up a bit during the final survey of 2020 but you canāt help but wonder if Nine would benefit from doing some decent external promotion (āHas your favourite Classic Hits station gone missing?ā - something among those lines) and poaching some ex-2CH talent for 2UE.

Agree. Basic promotion and marketing has gone missing in radio in this country.

Especially for AM radio stations and āsecondary radio stationsā like 2UE. Only basic marketing done. They did a newspaper ad.

I was streaming radio on my work computer in 1995. Itās not a new phenomenon.

I think itās well established that older listeners are leading the take up of digital radios. 2CH seem to think this is a new phenomenon.

Interesting 2UE has changed some of the music as a response to 2CH going DAB only. They now should get some more voices like 2CH has. If George Moore wanted an easier job he could get a shift their, just playing records.
At least 2CH have realised it - 4KQ hasnāt.

i reckon they havent gone full on DAB + as they have a very strong AM audienceā¦ if CH didnt have to leave the AM band, they would not have been so pro DAB+ either. remember at the start CH kept calling it DAB and not DAB+ā¦ anyway CH audience now is about 1/3 of what they had when on AMā¦
That would make senseā¦if 2CH didnāt start promoting their DAB+ service alongside 1170 a good year or two before the change in ownership and SEN inevitably deciding itād be better to have Sport than Classic Hits on the main AM service.
I wouldnāt be surprised if Sports Entertainment Network simply gets SEN staff (on air and off air) to eventually double up as 2CH announcers.
