DB is working for 2CH now… Wow that is a hell of a asset for 2CH
And yet 2CH is presumed destined to become SEN Sydney. What a waste
Indeed - all references to Classic Hits 2CH have been removed from the station’s former Twitter account which is now @sen1170:
I actually wonder if it’s possible that 1170AM might switch from 2CH to SEN without any prior warning on Wednesday (presuming that the ownership change formally happens on July 1 for the start of the financial year)?!
Well is today the last day for 2ch? Hope not! But funny the twitter account is no longer there (or renamed). Maybe the main target audience don’t use twitter.
Sadly, I suspect it’s inevitable that 2CH as we know it will end and be replaced by SEN Sydney.
I just hope that when the time comes, presenters will be able to do a proper farewell to listeners and just maybe, a “Farewell to 2CH” special program might be produced/go to air before SEN takes over 1170AM and in stereo on DAB+!
You could probably extend that to social media as a whole though.
It’ll certainly be rather interesting to see (and hear) what happens tomorrow, which I presume is when CrocMedia/SEN will get the keys to 2CH. And of course, in the days/weeks/months ahead!
The stereo sound on 2ch DAB is great. I know probably can’t match FM but it will be missed. 2UE is pretty good too but not as good as 2ch.
Lets hope that 2UE takes over from 2CH with the same announcers, they will only have to walk down the hall of the 2GB building.
2CH is stating that nothing is changing, as Pacific Star has told the employees it is business as usual.
For now, I’m sure. I can’t imagine them spending millions to buy a radio station just to leave it as is when at the same time they are buying up transmitters all over the country for building a national sports network
For whats it worth. It is still the old 2CH for now. If they wanted to “keep” 2CH maybe they will create a DAB channel for SEN.
That’d be a smart way of testing the market before regretting it.
Maybe. But in Melbourne they shut down the music format when they bought 3MP and turned 1377 into SEN+ or SEN2 or whatever. They don’t seem interested in running music stations.
Will be interesting to see what they do with 2CH either way
I’m surprised they’re yet to touch Spirit Bunbury outside of adding live AFL coverage.
I don’t think we’ll see much in the way of change to 2CH or 6EL until more sports resume from the corona virus shutdown. There’s not a lot of sport at the moment, so there wouldn’t be too much content. The network will probably also need to stabilise the revenue in existing markets before being able to fund the operating costs of expansion.
In Sydney they also have issues with rights, so will might want to wait until they can sort some of them out learning from the experience of MSR and EON Sports.
One benefit SEN 1170 will have over MSR is it won’t be the poor cousin of 2GB.
Like 2GB get the high rating sports and MSR don’t. I agree on the sports rights issues with 2sm and 2ue plus Covid esp abroad with less sports beiing played, maybe not the best time to launch full blown on 1170am. But a soft launch on DAB may happen.
Because this question had to be put to a poll eventually, when will 1170AM Sydney become SEN?
- By the end of July
- August
- September
- Late 2020
- Early 2021
- Autumn 2021 or later
- Not at all

Before I answer , will SEN have the rights to broadcast cricket into Sydney? Including big bash?
When will the 2ue/2sm league/afl contracts end?
In my best Anthony Green voice “We’re seeing some early numbers come in from some of the booths but at this stage with these numbers it’s still too far early to see a swing…”
I think in an attempt to answer my own question .
“Crocmedia will also hold the exclusive regional commercial radio rights to further expand cricket’s reach via its syndicated regional networks, and will also cover on SEN in Melbourne all Men’s Tests and all BBL matches.”
Does SEN have BBL as well as Nine Music Radio in Melbourne? Its not clear if SEN will allowed to bring the cricket in Sydney as there is no published agreement on the situation in Sydney. Anyway it seems 2024/2025 it will expire. SEN have no rights to international T20 and one dayers in Australia?
The NRL has these rights.
It seems they won’t be allowed to broadcast rugby league until 2022. I assume this will also apply to 2SM.
So that means it won’t be until 2022 they could broadcast the most popular winter sport into Sydney and 2024 for the cricket? That assumes if they win too. I guess they could do a deal with “GB” & Nine music radio but if they can’t maybe 2CH will go in 4 years from now, it is just they had the opportunity to buy as it is not everyday you can just buy a radio station in Sydney.
