Perhaps with their presenter cutbacks they’ll invest some of the money they save into the promotion you’re talking about. There are some simple promotional strategies that I’m surprised they haven’t implemented already. If there’s a forthcoming announcement about another “personality” coming into the 2CH lineup, then I would suggest they’re struggling to understand what they need to do to succeed.
You’re right … if they’d outrated a station on 104.1 at the top of its game, different story. But while 2CH and 2Day are bouncing around at the bottom of the survey, I wouldn’t be benchmarking success against beating them.
Agreed.
Somehow I actually wouldn’t be overly surprised if at least one of the new 2CH personalities for breakfast or drive turns out to be Mardi Cole or Nick Bennett (nothing against either as broadcasters, of course) even though both have presented shifts on the station before.
Yep, both excellent broadcasters who work very well in the format. Either one would be a very sensible choice.
According to the 2CH Facebook page, Trevor Sinclair will be back playing Classic Hits on January 13.
Does this mean he’ll be at breakfast or in another shift?
If times are tough maybe they’ll move Chris Kearns to Drive and have automated music at night?
Trevor Sinclair moves into drive from January 13, with Tim Webster taking over the breakfast show 5-9am weekdays. Kayley Harris, ex-WSFM, is also joining the on-air lineup on weekends, and will be the new breakfast EP

i still have Faith they should buy 1278 Melbourne from Nine Entertainment Co. and begin Relaying the Classic Hits Format there.
A slightly risky move to promote Tim Webster to breakfast, after doing well to keep mornings as one of 2CH’s higher rating weekday timeslots post-Bob Rogers.
I’m actually less surprised to hear that “Sydney’s Tonight Live” with Chris Kearns is returning since it rated reasonably well for 2CH last year and if anything has the potential to grow in 2020, now that Chris Bath (who surely must’ve been a major drawcard to Evenings?) has left ABC Radio Sydney.
I had to laugh at the “Kayley is well known to Sydney radio audiences with her hugely successful Breakfast program partnership with Hans Torv on 2WSFM” line in that article - perhaps this might’ve been the case in 2005 just after she left WSFM, but surely her time there would be a distant memory for most Sydneysiders (aside from us avid media followers of course) these days?
I still associate ‘Hans and Kayley’ with 2WS/WS FM, but that’s because they were on air when I first started paying attention to media matters. But yes, I think the association would be weak or non existent in the non radio geek population by now.
Agree, I would have left Tim Webster on mornings with perhaps a less longer shift and keep Trevor Sinclair on breakfast but am I missing something, who will be doing mornings, Rob Duckworth or Nick Bennett?
I would’ve put Rob Duckworth at Breakfast. Tim is perfect for Mornings.
“but am I missing something, who will be doing mornings, Rob Duckworth or Nick Bennett?”
I believe Tim will continue to do mornings…no doubt voice tracked.
6am-midday? That’s very BOG of EON if they go with that.
Breakfast is 5-9, so you’re looking at a 7 hour stint if so
Yes. Mediaweek has the lineup.
5:00am - 12:00pm: Tim Webster
12:00pm: 60s Lunchbreak (prerecorded)
1:00pm: 70s Lunchbreak (prerecorded)
2:00pm: Trevor Sinclair
7:00pm - 12:00am Chris Kearns
Now THAT’S how you run a music station on an oily rag.
… Interesting they’d rather lose mornings & gain a live nights announcer. I would’ve moved Chris Kearns to arvos & put Trevor at mornings, with automated music from 6/7pm onwards.
If only 2SM would revert to music… plus with Laws on Mornings, they too could have something similar.
9Radio - take note for 1278 & 882.
5am to midday isn’t a shift it’s torture
Imagine doing 7 hours on a CHR format. Torture wouldn’t even begin to describe it.
OCP are on the cut, their investment hasn’t returned what they’d like.
Where are our specialist 2CH contributors to add to discussion?
Imagine if Tim did 7 hours live, Kayley would double as EP and check to ensure Tim was awake!
Tim was doing breakfast on 2DAY-FM 35 years ago!, he is an old man now…like me
Tim will not be doing 6/7 hours live. Breakfast will be, the rest voice tracked. Unfortunately, they’ve lost another year by not putting him in breakfast at the start of 2019, again a lack of decisive management.
I suggest they bring back a daily edition of Kearn’s "Remember When’ for 12-2pm (voice-tracked), was a huge success at 2UE and fits the format like a glove.
I don’t understand rewarding Sinclair in drive unless he has time to work out. He failed in breakfast, listeners have already made a choice.
The obvious choice for drive on 2CH is Ron E Sparkes - he would bring much needed energy, momentum and name recognition to the target audience.
All that being said, unless/until the music mix is right, it’s still tinkering around the edges.
