Post your predictions for ratings in 2026.

The 2026 OzTAM Calendar has been released. The year commences Sunday 28 December 2025 and will run for 52 weeks until Saturday 26 December.

The ratings survey period has not been confirmed but I have inserted the usual weeks based on previous years.

My predictions:
People will still watch Married at First Sight and The Block in droves (for some reason).
No one will watch the shortened 10 News+.

Wish the official ratings survey would run for 43 weeks. Going by the above dates. Starting from February 1 and going right up to November 28. I still don’t get the ratings survey stopping over Easter. But I know that’s not going to stop anytime soon.

The best ‘excuse’ I can off is that OzTAM uses ratings boxes installed in houses. And during the non-survey periods like Easter and Christmas the residents go on holidays. So TV viewing by these people who are supposed to be part of the survey panel is both not recorded in their residence and not recorded in the holiday location.

But really I it more that fewer people watch at those times and it pulls down the numbers that TV executives show to advertisers.

My predictions:

Nine takes out the ratings year nationally thanks to 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Milan-Cortina, Rugby League, Married at First Sight, The Block, The Hundred with Andy Lee, Love Island Australia, The Golden Bachelor and 9News.

State of Origin sets new viewership record with record BVOD figures and the Perth market.

Going by this, I think you nailed it. Not surprised.

I only have one prediction and that is the AFL wildcard round will not rate.

the “official” ratings period is really just an arbitrary parameter these days, given that ratings are collected all year round.

One network will come first, one will come last. People will watch television

Hard to see Nine being seriously challenged* with their multiple successes.

Metro

The Melbourne market is the first to have 6 million potential viewers.

Regional

(Regional WA, Rest of Australia)

• The VOZ service Total TV All People universe estimates (UEs) detail the estimated population by which VOZ Total TV audiences are calculated.
• The addition of the VOZ Metro universe and the Regional universe will be greater than the National universe due to the overlapping market areas
• VOZ Total TV UEs reflect the total Australian population including people in zero TV homes which differs from the OzTAM and Regional TAM TV ratings service UEs which were based on 1+ TV households.
