What about the Project 90 minute special then?
What control room takes that?

The Projects usual control room - they have separate control rooms.

WTF - why do these endorsements matter so much to voters - if anything, they shouldn’t be endorsing candidates if they want to be seen an impartial. I don’t get what the uproar is about.

Endorsements come on the editorial pages. These are the opinion pages of the newspaper. They are not to be confused with the news sections.

Editorializing in newspapers has been done since they first came out. There are designated editorial boards that take the positions for these sections.

It is derelict for the Post who has a slogan “democracy dies in darkness” to not take a position based purely on its owners fear of trump reprisals.

Yes - editorials usually represent the opinions of an individual, however, when they do articles saying that the paper endorses a particular party or candidate, it is them saying that the whole paper supports a party, which raises the question of impartiality.

Both newspapers had reportedly prepared editorials supporting Democrat Kamala Harris. Instead, at the behest of Bezos and Patrick Soon-Shiong at the Times, they decided not to endorse. Post publisher Will Lewis called it “a statement in support of our readers’ ability to make up their own minds.”

By announcing their decisions within two weeks of Election Day, however, the newspapers left themselves vulnerable to criticism that their publishers were trying not to anger Republican Donald Trump if voters returned him to power. “It looked like they were not making a principled decision,” said John Woolley, co-director of the American Presidency Project at the University of California-Santa Barbara.

Retired Post editor Martin Baron, on social media, said the decision showed “disturbing spinelessness at an institution famed for courage” and that Trump would see it as a further invitation to intimidate Bezos.

“This is obviously an effort by Jeff Bezos to curry favor with Donald Trump in the anticipation of his possible victory,” Robert Kagan told CNN’s Erin Burnett OutFront. “Trump has threatened to go after Bezos’ business. Bezos runs one of the largest companies in America. They have tremendously intricate relations with the federal government. They depend on the federal government.”

Nope… they are specifically talking about the editorial on the opinion pages. It happens in Australia and the UK too.

They aren’t writing countless articles expressed impartially to endorse a candidate. There are a plenty of examples from other big papers in the US that have done this.

You can also see the big front page editorial endorsement of Trump by the Murdoch owned NY Post.

What I am saying is those are editorials from individuals expressing their opinions - this is about the newspaper as a whole endorsing a candidate despite claiming to be impartial - doesn’t matter if it’s in the editorial section - the newspaper is still endorsing a candidate.

Editorials are from the editors of the paper as a whole.z they aren’t articles. Editorial boards of newspapers fix the editorial positions of the paper. You are not understand how these things work. They aren’t random “individuals” or reporters, they are the editors of the paper who write EDITORIALS framed as an endorsement. Go and read the newspapers and see how this is done and this is what this issue with Washington Post is all about.

Who are saying that the paper endorses a candidate or party - if it was just them saying “I support XX”, then it is different.

Here is a couple from the 2019 election - note how they all say that “This publication endorses XXX”

The Australian’s 2019 Editorial:

The Sydney Morning Herald’s 2019 Editorial:

The Herald Sun’s 2019 Editoral:

Labor has run loudly on its “fair go” campaign but its radical redistribution of wealth is largely unfair and contradicts Australia’s “have a go” aspirational spirit.

The Morrison Government has much to do to repair the disunity of its recent past, to work cooperatively with the states on infrastructure and to set clear policies where it has stumbled, on energy prices and climate change. But it has earnt its stripes in record jobs creation and budget repair.

The Herald Sun advocates for a vote for the Coalition. Mr Morrison and his team deserve another term.

The Courier Mail’s 2019 Editorial:

Mr Morrison, in his short time as prime minister, has unified a ruptured party and proved to be a steady hand. He’s built on the Coalition’s record of disciplined fiscal management, job creation and rewarding hard work, particularly with the small businesses, the engine room of our economy.

After six years, Mr Shorten and Labor have also moved on from the havoc of their past. But in this campaign, they’ve left too many vital questions unanswered and failed to convince voters, particularly Queenslanders, they can be trusted to prudently run the economy and govern for all in the future.

Now isn’t the time for change and tomorrow we urge Queenslanders to vote for the Coalition.

I do as I have explained multiple times - when they say this publication endorses XXX, they are saying that the publication endorses a candidate, hence opening up to questions being asked about it’s bias and impartiality.

My original point was not about why they do it, or how they do it - my point was asking if it they should be endorsing candidates in the first place if they want to be seen as unbiased.
