I would simply assume it’s to earn money, which can be exchanged for goods and services.
Especially because PBS will also be airing it. But that’s not that big of an issue since PBS will probably be covering up the commercial breaks.
good thing the other one is sharp as a tack, maybe even the sharpest. they have these tacks and they are so sharp, beautifully sharp.

SBS and SBS On Demand will simulcast the CNN Presidential Debate LIVE this Friday 28 June
The ‘CNN Presidential Debate’ between President Joe Biden and former President Donald J. Trump will be simulcast LIVE from Atlanta, Georgia, in its entirety this Friday 28 June at 11:00am AEST on SBS and SBS On Demand.
The debate will be held in CNN’s Atlanta studios. CNN anchors Dana Bash and Jake Tapper will serve as moderators. To ensure candidates may maximise the time allotted in the debate, no audience will be present.
To qualify for participation, candidates must fulfill the requirements outlined in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution of the United States; file a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission; a candidate’s name must appear on a sufficient number of state ballots to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold to win the presidency prior to the eligibility deadline; agree to accept the rules and format of the debate; and receive at least 15% in four separate national polls of registered or likely voters that meet CNN’s standards for reporting.
Polls that meet CNN editorial standards and will be considered qualifying polls include those sponsored by: CNN, ABC News, CBS News, Fox News, Marquette University Law School, Monmouth University, NBC News, the New York Times/Siena College, NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist College, Quinnipiac University, the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post.
The polling window to determine eligibility for the debate opened March 13, 2024, and closed seven days before the date of the debate.
Coverage includes CNN’s pre-debate remarks and there will be two commercial breaks of approximately 3:30 minutes in length. CNN’s Presidential Debate is estimated to conclude just past 1:00pm AEST, when SBS’s programming will resume.
Last week, SBS was named the most trusted news brand in Australia by the University of Canberra and Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism’s annual global Digital News Report 2024. Each year the report delivers comparative data on media usage in 47 countries including Australia.
The only coverage on ABC News Channel confirmed so far is an episode of Planet America: Fireside Chat this Friday at its regular timeslot of 8pm AEST.
The first 2024 Presidential Debate between Biden and Trump could be make or break for their campaign. Chas and John bring you the key takeouts and big moments.
The Fireside Chat is normally 45 minutes, it will just be a special episode covering the debate.
Interesting that the CNN logo is pretty prominent on ABC and NBC’s promos, and even SBS’s. Must be some requirement that CNN be given prominent billing.
It is – linked an article up a couple posts but essentially CNN is mandating that it’s called the “CNN Presidential Debate simulcast” and use CNN graphics (or at least guidelines) for promos
Anyone know if channel 10 is showing it?
TVB Pearl in Hong Kong is simulcasting the CNN debate on 28/6 morning HKT, replayed at 9.30 the same night.
It directly follows their NBC Nightly News simulcast, which lasts from 7.30 to 8. Strangely, it was listed with Market Overview, an financial indices slide show, and an hour earlier than the official schedule.
Not likely. It’ll be on CBS News Streaming (or whatever it’s called now) on P+. They’ll want to be a point of difference given no one will turn to them to watch it specifically.
Mentioned on Afternoon news that it will air from 11am tomorrow, sounds like it will be introduced by Narelda.
Friday June 28
ABC News Channel - US Election 2024: CNN Presidential Debate Simulcast
East Coast - 11am-1pm
SA & NT - 10:30am-12:30pm
WA - 9am-11am
About time ABC got on board - leaves the BBC and Sky UK as the only news channel’s in Australia not covering the debate (assuming that 6 news is covering it).
Why are Sky news uk and BBC news not showing it? Do they not have deals with CNN?
Either that, or in the case of the BBC, showing CNN branded coverage would be against their charter.
Sadly no because of CNN licensing, however we will be airing highlights from the 2020 Trump/Biden debates instead (after our news bulletins on the hour)
Sad to hear. Hopefully you guys can do a post debate wrap up, as well as hopefully air the 2nd debate.
We’re definitely going to explore what we can do for the second debate yeah
