2022 Federal Election - Media Coverage

I’m sure Nine will channel Magda Szubainski with ‘You are, THE WEAKEST LINK. Goodbye!’

A giant mask comes in and drags the losing candidate off to quarantine. :mask:

I know it has been declared one of the worst Australian game shows ever made but I always thought Shafted contained some interesting concepts. Who wouldn’t love to see election candidates drop through the floor when they’ve been shafted by the electorate?

Morrison was never going to agree to participate in an ABC debate due to the hostility his government has towards the broadcaster.

I think the program headings for the opening hour of Election Night Live is slightly incorrect. When polling closes in the eastern states at 6pm AEST, it will stay open in SA and NT for another 30 minutes, and in WA for another two hours.

Wonder if 10 will bother with a press release of their intentions to cover the night, am guessing other than a few mentions during the news they haven’t done any election promos?

The promo Nine is running for the debate says it’ll be live (at least on the east coast anyway):

Given the quality of the questions some of press pack ask; getting Scott Cam, Someone from MAFS and Big Dog on a panel might actually elicit some decent questions

I think you’re overstating the importance of Overton and Loxley. They’re primarily hosts, not presenters or analysts. They’re not going to try to be Leigh Sales but they’re experienced professionals and there’s no reason to think they won’t be well informed enough to do their jobs. Their role is to direct the coverage and control the conversation but people aren’t really going to be listening to them and they won’t be doing most of the talking.

I thought the ABC’s coverage was massively overrated. The whole presentation was overly dark, drab and just generally dull. Leigh Sales is a very good host and Antony Green is exceptional but everyone else is just average at best. Also felt quite insular when compared to 9’s coverage for example, who had more reporters in different locations and were able to mix it up with more live crosses and interviews.

the thing with the ABC is that they are not trying to compete for the same viewers the commercials do. ABC is where the left / centralist politics nuts go, Sky is for the right whereas 7 & 9 are trying to get those who want to know the results but want it presented as “light enterainment” - something you can put on whist doing other things such as cleaning, or at an election night party

I seen that 7 and 9 lean to the right too

true but most who really lean right will watch sky

HA. 9:10pm… Post watershed. More people will likely have watched the Sky people’s forum.

ABC Alumni believes that it is a disgrace that the ABC, with its broad reach to metropolitan and regional Australians, and a raft of expert and seasoned political interviewers and correspondents, should be excluded from broadcasting at least one debate.

The Age and News Corp both on the Scott propaganda train today. And then the media/journalists wonder why nobody trusts them anymore.
