2020 Queensland Local Government Elections

Saturday 28 March 2020

Queensland’s 2020 local government quadrennial elections will be held in 4 weeks time. Elections will be held for mayors and councillors across Queensland’s 77 councils.

Discuss media coverage here.

Expect regional news to have extensive coverage up to the date - it’s good content for local bulletins.

The Brisbane City Council election is interesting in particular as Labor’s lord mayoral candidate is Patrick Condren, a former long-time state political reporter for Seven Brisbane, as well as having previously worked for the ABC. Can’t say either of his former networks have given him an armchair ride though

I wonder if the coronavirus will impact these elections if at all. They couldn’t come at a worse time if the government is discouraging people to minimise public interactions.

Seven Brisbane have schedule extra time on Saturday night 28 March (presumably) for news updates on the Council Elections.

There are 2 state by-elections as well

Note that the last graphic is incorrect - the numbers are for the other state seat of Bundamba.

According to channel 9, 2 candidates for mayor of Moreton Bay are the same person

Tom Hartley’s glasses are not great.

The networks have had to stop coverage for tonight despite only a small number of results being published as the ECQ has had computer problems and has been unable to post results on-line.
