2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games

Kerri Pottharst has issued a public, unreserved apology for making an offensive comment during today’s men’s beach volleyball match between Australia and St Kitts and Nevis. She claimed that St Kitts and Nevis players looked like “human lamingtons covered in sand”.

Jason Richardson is back hosting the highlights show with Mel McLaughlin at The Star tonight, after Jason hosted Seven’s Horse Racing coverage at Royal Randwick yesterday.

Mel’s still not doing anywhere near enough, Seven failing at using her to her full potential. Are they not impressed with her or something? Richo doesn’t shut up either.

I swear Mel was on screen more and did more when she was at Ten! How embarrasing.

Okay, she is the Seven News Sydney sport presenter and maybe this week she’s lined-up for more positions at the Comm Games. But I can’t be the only one noticing this?

The less she’s seen the better.

They were interviewing a medalist this evening live when he started talking about Ninja Warrior. Wrong network buddy. Awkward lol.

Seven isn’t going to put her front and centre while she is being shopped around to other networks.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see her jump over to Fox if they end up launching a cricket channel.

Is she being shopped around?

They’ve certainly downgraded her role. Late night only, and with a side-kick. Must be hard for her to take.

Who is the executive producer of Seven’s coverage?

A quick google search suggests Andy Kay (who’s LinkedIn bio says “Head of Olympics & Comm Games [Seven]” and is credited as EP of every Olympics/Comm Games the network has broadcast from Sydney 2000):+1:

Good on you @sully, thanks; all new to me, thanks very much, most interesting to read of his career.

Edit

Something I’ve been meaning to mention:

No Kylie Gillies as part of the Comm Games coverage?

She was of course a sport journo/presenter back in the day and has been part of Seven Sport’s Olympics since Sydney 2000, she even hosted afternoons during Rio 2016.

She’s the big noticeable exclusion from this event. I wonder if she was asked and declined? Or maybe what @mirb posted in TMS thread, was really needed for whatever they’re (with Larry Emdur) doing in the US?

Shame not to see her in some capacity at the Gold Coast :pensive:

That’s alright

Cynic posted a media statement last year about him moving from Sydney headquarters back to Adelaide, where he is also now General Manager of that station.

Yes, they’re hanging around the Broadwater Parklands. Within the legislated area that police could move them on no questions asked.

They seemingly are afforded considerably more leniency than 98% of the population who would’ve been moved on and likely detained for hours if we tried similar.
