2016 Ratings Predictions

With the ODI at the MCG, I suspect the Melbourne ratings will see a boost, being the highest-rating cricket market anyway. It’ll just depend on how many viewers watch in other markets…

•Cricket - One Day International, Third Day (MCG, Session 2): 1m

Saturday the 10th of December 2016

BBL cricket is back! (Well, the women’s competition anyway)…

•Cricket - Big Bash League (Game 2, Session 2): 350k

Thursday December 15
Cricket: Australia v Pakistan 1st Test
session 1: 0.36m, session 2: 0.54m, session 3: 0.87m
Movie: The Last Samurai rpt 0.41m

Home and Away (double episodes) 0.62m
Border Security: America’s Front Line 0.54m
Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares rpt 0.47m

David Attenborough’s Fabulous Frogs rpt 0.42m

Even though there’s a new day-night test, because the Gabba generally pulls lower ratings & the expected outcome from this series (one sided, boring)…

•Cricket (Second Test Series) - First Test (Pakistan, Day1, Session 2): 875k

•Home and Away (double ep): 650k

•Border Security US: 575k

•SVU: 525k

•Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares: 475k

•David Attenborough: 425k

I think the 3rd session will pull over 1 mill. School holidays have kicked in for many and Australia were batting.

However as we’ve seen the past couple of nights, Seven have done very well & been close to Nine in share (due to Test Cricket’s declining ratings)…

Frozen I suspect will do well in the key demos, particularly 16-39s and families with grocery buyers. Total people should also be well over 500k.

Personally, I think that Seven will be very lucky to get over the 500k mark for tonight’s airing of Frozen.

It’s been about three years since that movie was released…and hasn’t it aired on Seven before? I’m sure most of the demographic who are interested have seen it by now.

The first time Frozen was shown on Seven was up against the day-night test in Adelaide last year when it rated 518,000 up against 1,040,000 for the cricket.

Showers are falling in Brisbane which will affect today’s play at the cricket. It will be close call with Seven picking up late night viewers.

60 Minutes 0.55m

Sunday Night 0.59m

Woolworths Carols in the Domain 0.68m

Movie: Home Alone rpt 0.34m
Michael Buble live at the BBC premiere 0.35m

Carols in the Domain has been declining in recent years & has failed to reach 1m. With the day-night cricket (albeit one sided & poor weather in QLD)…

I predict around 700k (2015 had 753k)? Which is pretty poor for Seven & any major Carols tbh.

NB/
Carols by Candlelight consistently rates around 1.5m (but that is on Christmas Eve & more of an annual Australian tradition).

I think you have hit the nail on the head there. Christmas Eve is more of a time when people are going to watch Carols.
