2016 Ratings Predictions

Sunday January 24
WBBL final: Sydney Thunder v Sydney Sixers 0.26m (Ten)
BBL final: Melbourne Stars v Sydney Thunder (Ten + One)
session 1 1.01m
session 2 1.3m

Australian Open night 7 0.74m

I think the grandfinal will be big.
1.2 for first session
1.5 for second

Tuesday January 26
Twenty20 cricket: Australia v India 1.28m

Australian Open night 9 0.74m

Australia Day concert 0.35m

Tennis smashed the ratings again last night, over 1m watched Tomic lose to Murray.

Aus Open has seen record crowds, Seven have seen record streaming & ratings have been best in a few years.

Prediction:

Men’s Aus Open Final: 2.2m (metro). Might change, depending if it’s an early thrashing

Thursday January 28
Australian Open men’s semi-final: Federer v Djokovic 1.2m

Well, considering what’s airing on Nine and Ten (in comparison tonight), if Seven don’t get over 1 million…

They’re on the take.

Friday January 28
T20 cricket should beat the tennis tonight, although the weather and absence of Australian cricket stars like David Warner and Steve Smith may affect the ratings.

Twenty20 cricket: Australia v India game 2 1.16m

Australian Open men’s semi-final: Murray v Raonic 0.86m

It could be a washout if they get adelaides rain.

Sunday the 31st Januray 2016:

Seven will face probably the most competition EVER on an Australian Open men’s final night…

This year, Nine have T20 international cricket at the SCG & Ten have the launch of both ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  and the return of the X Files.

For those reasons, even if Djokovic & Murray make a 5 set thriller, I don’t think it’ll even get 2 million (metro) this year, that’s presentations. (Last year match only got around 1.8m and that was an increase).

Only positive for Seven is, if it is a long match, they’ll get the share advantage of until Midnight (12am).

PREDICTIONS:

Seven Network: 38.5% (primary 31.5%)
Nine Network: 30.5% (primary 24.5%)
Network Ten: 27% (primary 21.5%)

2016 Australian Open Men’s Final: 1.85m (presentations) / 1.65m (match). Declines.

Nine News: 1.25m

Seven News: 1.05m

T20 International Cricket: 975k+?

ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– : 825k+?

X Files: 800k?

Saturday January 30
Last year the Australian Open women’s singles final was up against Asian Cup soccer final and Queensland state election. With less competition tonight, the tennis should get more than 1 million.
Australian Open: women’s singles final preview 0.62m
Australian Open: women’s singles final 1.2m
Australian Open: post-match presentation 0.72m

With India winning game 2 of Twenty20 thus the series, the SCG match is now a dead rubber so I expect less people will watch the cricket. Ten is clever in starting I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here at 6.30pm as it will be up against tennis preview in Sydney and Melbourne, and there will be lots of people sampling I’m a Celebrity before switching to the tennis after 7.30pm.

If both these show don’t get over 1 million I consider the promotional push a failure.

You should check especially your share predictions. With those numbers just 4% is left for ABC. If the program numbers eventuated it would be more like 37% to Seven, 27% Nine and 17% Ten.

The competition for the tennis is not too different from last year when Seven had 42%, Nine 24% and Ten 18% from 1.9m tennis, 1m for cricket and 1.17 for Celebrity.

Thanks TV Cynic.

I completely forgot Nine had cricket last year.

If the trend continues then, on the back of a very successful 2016 Aus Open, maybe the match WILL get 2m & presentations 2.2m?

Anyway, both tennis finals tonight/tomorrow are sure to be crackers. Djokovic is ridiculous.
