10 Play

Those MTV fast channels look dodgy as fuck.

I’m thinking it might just be these for the moment, and 10 will evaluate how it’s working for them.

Looks like these channels are the result of the announcement back in October coming to fruition

I tested out a few of the FAST channels after Thank God You’re Here finished and they’re working well, surprised there’s no watermarks as yet (no complaints) but it would be great if there was titles on the music channels for the songs.

MTV Love doesn’t really sound like a music channel if you didn’t know what it was? It’s not until you launch the channel where it has a bit of a description.

Ads so far were all for 10 content so far.

This master list of Pluto TV channels should give us an idea of what the content will look like…

Very few FAST channels use watermarks in the grand scheme of things. I think it’s mostly due to the fact a FAST channel is just playing out a playlist of on demand content. Adding a watermark or text would involve a presentation suite of sorts.

There are exceptions though, like 10 Play’s curated channels (Xtreme Adventure, True Stories, Retro Cartoons etc) showing a 10 Play watermark in the top-right. But interestingly the watermarks on these channels change size and design frequently, so whatever method they’re using isn’t very reliable or consistent.

Didn’t think of that, interesting. I just assumed they’d want to watermark the channels for branding etc, but make sense.

Yeah I agree. It’s weird not seeing a channel brand on-screen. I guess we’re so used to it these days!

I’m surprised they don’t float one over the top of the video within the app itself, a bit like how Netflix, etc show OFLC classifications in the top-left of screen when you begin playing or resuming a video. So they could start watermarking if they really wanted to.

If those are what we can expect then alot of these channels have already been up and running for a while now via Samsung tv plus, TCL TV, LG TV and some of them have even been on 7 Plus.

Ever since those new FAST channels launched on 10 Play the guide has had an error (maybe not?) where it just shows the current episode name instead of the show name.

So while 10 Peach says it is showing “Seinfeld”, nickrewind just says “Ep. 7” with no detail of what show is playing.

I don’t think it’s an error, the actual FTA channel streams (and the imported FAST channels) have the actual names of the shows, while the 10Play ‘automated’ channels probably show the episode number. I don’t know why since it wasn’t like this with the previous 10Play FAST channels but it’s most likely on purpose.

There were some inconsistencies before the recent Nickelodeon changes. I know this because xmlepg.net scrapes 10 Play’s TV guide and I had to make a number of functions in the script to clean it all up. But now it’s just all over the place.

I wouldn’t say it’s on purpose. It’s very inconvenient just having episode names in the guide - you have no idea what the show is unless the thumbnail gives it away. I’m not aware of any other TV platform where this is normal or purposefully done for mixed content FAST channels.

I’ve been using 10play a bit lately for live tv, mainly because my free to air is terrible, I’ve in Melbourne, but notice I seem to be getting a lot of SA ads.

The app is def not set to Adelaide, has anyone else had issues with other states ads appearing?

The problem has been fixed! It looks perfect now, with the season/episode numbers on most channels too :pinched_fingers:
