You could easily take the same vision (minus i98 announcers) and apply the same ad for the ABC.
Did I watch a corporate wank video or a radio TVC for a station with a demo all people under 45?
Big effort to frame and crop co hosts from Marty as many defected or left for other opportunities.
I nearly fell asleep watching that ad for some 65+ retirement community.
Oh wait⦠is that meant to be a CHR/Hot AC radio station?
So just like about 90% of AC stations explicitly using āFeel Goodā as or in their slogan these days (incl. i98). Canāt say Iām shocked any
2ST and its consultants had an early version of this generic meaninglessness with āpart of your lifeā.
Really? Iād think seeing that, a crackly & crusty AM station isnāt part of my life.
Yes I remember the 2ST Part of Your Life positioner, it was used during the 90ās
Now back to the future with former Austereo positioners, Better Music & More of It, and Todayās Best Music.
Total bombs (bad) of positioners in the ā90s and remain so in 2023.
Unsurprising Duncan and his team are recycling the past. They do good at many things yet take short cuts like this.
I donāt think itās necessarily a bad idea⦠the 90s were good times in radio when commercial FM radio started to boom before it became excessively networked. And the music was pretty good too.
Better Music and More of it with Todays Best Music and Good Times and Greatest Hits that make you feel good, Forever Classic 2ST.
Too long?
Hah, keep going. You forgot āPart of your lifeā.
haha thought that was covered lol
I wonder how the ARN takeover of SCA if it proceeds will pan out in Wollongong and the Illawarra.
In Nowra, Power fm becomes KIIS 94.9 and 2ST become Triple M.
Wollongong still remains their problem, who do they align and rebrand Wave fm with, Triple M or KIIS. If i98 was placed on the market ARN would most likely snap it up to create their duopoly.
If ARN persists with their one Hot AC log fits all, you would have the same songs playing at exactly the same time on their Upper Hunter / Newcastle / Central Coast / Wollongong/ Nowra and Canberra KIIS stations.
This would be very bad.
Sorry not related to Wollongong , on the Central Coast a Hot AC KIIS 101.3 would have an almost identical format to Star 104.5. Does Nova Ent skew Star 104.5 younger closer to Nova to cater for the new gap in the market?
wrong thread I know. would that mean all power fm stations rename to KIIS
My assumption is they will fall into the KIIS regional network, so possibly get rebranded to KIIS. Does Wave fm stay a standalone brand or does it become KIIS 96.5 or 965 Triple M?
Maybe Wave fm going into the Triple M camp might be the best way to try and compete with i98 which owns the Hot AC market, and anyone under 52.
52? I had better not move to Wollongong then⦠as Iāll be 52 next year and will be worried as to what happens to me!
Yes interesting situation with 96.5⦠Iām assuming theyāll go Triple M as there is bigger overlap with 94.9 than with 91.7? I know thatās not what they do now, but this will be a great opportunity to review their positioning.
For Wollongong, Iād like to see WaveFM become either similar to WSFM, Star104.5 or Triple M.
Either way, WaveFM needs to shift older than i98.
As for PowerFM, I think it definitely needs to become another KIIS - even if they retain the PowerFM local branding. Come holiday season, itās more likely the type of upbeat music youād want to hear (and would be competitive once again against the Wollongong/Illawarra market).
ABC Illawarraās Melinda Jamesā interview with long-time local radio presenter Steve Parsons, who presented breakfast & later mornings on 2WL/Wave FM. He later presented on ABC Illawarra in various shifts, notably mornings & drive.
According to the article below, i98FM played more Australian music than any other commercial radio station (at least those surveyed by Aircheck) in 2023, in which they played 390 different songs, totaling 25,712 spins.
Iām surprised Mandurah didnāt do similarly. Both stations have broad playlists.
Read the fine print since, Mandurah not included.
