So youāre judging how Bruce Roberts reads whilst simultaneously stating that you donāt watch WIN News. Rightā¦
so you donāt watch but you also know all this and also you do watch?
I think what Jack has perhaps put in a less than eloquent way, is that Bruce does take very noticeable big breaths at the start of each story. I have just watched a bunch online and he does it every time.
It is something you often seen in less experienced presenters, and I donāt know if heās always done it or if itās a result of his illness, but it is very noticeable.
If you compare:

You can see it.
He has been doing it for years. He has also been looking down or to his side at his papers at the start of every report for years too.
No Iām saying WIN News is shit as itās hardly local nowadays. Bruce Roberts has 2 irritating habits which are taking big breaths and looking down or to his side at his papers at the start of every report.
I disagree wholeheartedly. I like the little page turns.
Meanwhile you have an irritating habit of having an unhealthy fixation on the man.
The looking up from the monitor isnāt new, heās been doing that since day dot in Ballarat, just the angle has changed. Heās always been a deep breath taker before speaking, heās not the only one, currently sounds a bit raspy.
Itās to create the illusion that itās live and heās got the audio delay or waiting for the story to end.

I am at disbelief that this particular topic has lasted almost a week, and it hasnāt even been a constructive topic at thatā¦
Yes, exactly!
I also donāt understand why the post I made in this thread a week ago got deleted (and iām expecting this one will too), yet thereās been 50+ posts made since which are about Bruceās breathing for godās sake.
This thread should have been temporarily locked IMO, or at the very least, someone should have stepped in and made a post discouraging further comments about Bruceās habits.
Mods are not across every post and thread 24/7. Youāve all been around long enough to know to use the report feature to flag any discussion thatās going off the rails.
I understand that and realise that you all have busy lives outside of the forum of course, but these posts about Bruceās breathing, paper shuffling etc. have been going on for over a week now. This thread has actually been one of the most active topics in recent days.
I would have thought at least one staff member would have read some of the posts in this thread during that time?
and considering that some moderators liked certain posts in this thread during this time too
Ok. Goodo.

Look, I do not think it is unnecessarily wrong for the topic to have been brought up from a viewer perspective. I myself have found the looking up from the monitor every time quite annoying also.
However the manner in which the topic was raised with the language was poor, but not unexpected when youāre dealing with someone obviously still developing, hopefully they grow out of it soon.
Jared Constable now showing as part of the presenting team in promotions along with Sarah Cawte, the new weather presenter.
Nothing saying that Bruce isnāt directed to do that either, the looking up from papers mainly - especially when I think itās been said to be jukeboxed more-or-less, so itās at least consistent if they use a report in another region [I guess this matters little now most of WIN News is aggregated-market wide now] or on Facebook. Probably also soaks up half a minute over a bulletin that they donāt have to āwasteā on news⦠if they could be bothered, theyād cut it half a second tighter, but obviously not.
Reminds me of a video of a news service from interior Alaska (population not dissimilar to a typical NSW regional centre, about 30,000, but not serving much more) where the newsreader thanked the reporter and shuffled his papers around for five whole seconds on air, to pad time⦠certainly some days in āWIN Territoryā would be similar, only having twelve minutes of news in a 21-minute bulletin, and not really wanting to take reports from Nine (like NBN would in a combined bulletin, say) to make up the quota.
At least WIN have the ability to jukebox in some reports from surrounding regions to make it up (and it still counts as partial points for their content quota) but regardless.
