Ken Jennings, who has been great in the role, had commitments to The Chase and couldn’t continue.
Hard to believe there was nobody available in L.A. to take the helm if a planned guest host who had to be flown in cancelled at the last minute.

Variety understands that ViacomCBS is selling the program outside the US as it turns out, but if the Variety story is correct it means it is not automatically going to company owned Channel 5. That could also mean it doesn’t automatically go to Channel 10 in Australia, I’m guessing.
