Alex Trebek looked genuinely downcast on today’s show when Jeopardy James’s 32 game winning streak finally came to an end just shy of the $2.52 million record set by Ken Jennings fifteen years ago during his 74 game run.

Gray Television is set to reinstate the playing of The Star Spangled Banner on its stations in 93 markets.

I wonder if that’ll mean they’ll bring back the sign-on/off message too?

Netflix streams new episodes of the comedy in Australia, while ABC Comedy showed the first two seasons earlier this year.

Trailer for Reef Break which premieres on ABC at 10:00pm on Thursday 20 June.

Fox News Channel runs The Star Spangled Banner daily. It usually airs between the end of overnight encores and the start of live programming. It’s a bit of tradition I like to see.

What about that old sign off though? The rattling off of callsigns of every microwave affiliate is something else. Modern US radio hourly IDs have to be read in super-speed to fit all of the translator and digital simulcast callsigns in to 10 seconds. It’s almost surreal hearing someone actually take the time to read them out carefully.

Reef Break premiered tonight on ABC in the US. The interest for Australia being that the ABC Studios and France’s M6 co-production is shot on the Gold Coast and features many familiar backdrops and Australian actors including lead Poppy Montgomery.

Nine could get Reef Break under its current deal with Disney and show it over next summer.

But would they want to?

Always good for a game of spot the car with the driver on the left or in this case Queensland number plate

Who remembers how well it worked out for Nine the last time they set a drama against the crashing waves, sandy beaches and beautifully bronzed bodies of the Gold Coast?

I think they even tried to sell that turkey to the US.

It ran for two seasons and 260 episodes so wasn’t a complete flop.

It actually sold to a lot of countries overseas. Wikipedia lists 13 countries but there were a lot more. I remember travelling through Europe in the 90s and seeing it broadcast in Italy, Greece and France.

Seven may fasttrack either or both dramas during the AFL Grand Final week.

They were always going to pick this up given its distributed by CBS television studios. The only other place it would’ve potentially shown up is All Access.

I don;t think it’s as simple as that. Wasn’t there a big court case years ago because a US company was doing special discounts for a company it owned and the producers who got some of the backend went to court because they weren’t making as much money as they could have been. I think it’s a full bidding process.
