Yeah, wasn’t VOA already a propaganda piece for the US?
The Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) in the US has said it is “highly concerned” by the Trump administration’s decision to cut the funding of Voice of America (VoA) and suspend its employees.
The AIB said axing VoA has far-reaching and potentially “irreversible” consequences, including undermining media freedom, reduced access to credible information for hundreds of millions of people and damage to the global credibility of the US.
U.S. District Court Judge J. Paul Oetke granted a temporary restraining order to a group of VOA employees who brought the case.
The plaintiffs were joined in the litigation by other groups, including Reporters Without Borders, unions and the American Foreign Service Association.
The judge’s order bars the Trump administration from taking any further actions to “implement or effectuate” the executive order and a subsequent email that put much of the VOA staff on leave.
KLAC/Los Angeles, 1955 Profile.
This film was found hidden away in the offices of 2UE of all places, so thanks to whoever stashed it away all those years ago - what a wonderful time capsule!
ABC’s Media Watch tonight had a segment on Trump’s recent funding cuts to Radio Free Asia and Radio Free Europe. It included excerpts from the show’s email interviews with RFA’s South East Asia editor (and former ABC journalist) Ginny Stein.
Trump’s a bloody idiot. Why he went for these guys is beyond me.
Especially when Trump wants to fight against China with his tariffs plan. RFA would have been one of his powerful tools opposing Chinese propaganda.
so today marks 20 years since WCBS-FM, abruptly regenerated into JackFM
probably one of the biggest monumental failures in radio history, and they knew it when they flipped it back in 2007
Interesting that Jack FM seemed to work in Los Angeles. Though I didn’t mind the Arrow (All rock and roll) FM format from what I heard of it.
For nearly 25 years, Scott has worked for CBS, but now he is switching over to ABC News Radio in the United States.
Just stumbled upon this last night:
- Authentic Top 40 radio broadcasts from the 1960s-1990s
- Unscoped airchecks featuring full segments with DJs, news, jingles, and ads
- A rotating collection of rare, historic audio playing back-to-back 24/7
- Legendary voices from iconic radio stations in cities big and small
Voice of America, launched during World War II to counter the propaganda of Axis powers, has been reduced to a shell of its former self, with the Trump administration announcing that it was terminating more than 600 employees from the media outlet and other government-funded broadcasters.
All told, 85% of the workforce has been eliminated since March, or 1,400 positions across the media outlets, according to an announcement from Kari Lake, the senior adviser tapped by Trump to make the cuts.
Clear Channel/IHM’s long-term plan to have near-complete domination of the US radio industry has finally succeeded. Sadly, the Audacy stations are still geo-blocked, even through iHeart.
Here are the top 50 stations in the US by Share and by Cume for the June PPM survey.
The cume list is very interesting. Only 5x CHR stations in the top 50, which is dominated by AC, Hot AC, Classic Hits/Classic Rock.
A bunch of smaller U.S. markets are currently having their ratings released day-by-day by Nielsen/Eastlan. Due to the number of markets and the number of stations in each of them, it’s not possible to rank all of them in one go.
So instead, these are the top 20 stations in this cluster. They obviously all lead their local markets. (More markets are continuing to release data, so check back on this at least for the next 3 weekdays as the leaderboard changes.)

Note that these are different services (Nielsen vs. Eastlan) and different methodologies… and some are rated by both: WXBQ has a 20.8 in Eastlan in Johnson City, while it only has a 13.9 in Nielsen.
This list also doesn’t account for non-subscribers which are more numerous in smaller markets (there are several large stations with double-digit shares that don’t show up.)
There are 48 Nielsen PPM markets, 44 Nielsen monthly diary (CDM) markets, 150 Nielsen bi-annual diary markets (some are three-month surveys, others are rolling six-month surveys), along with 15 monthly Eastlan markets.
The CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting), which oversees funding for both PBS and NPR, is shutting down at the end of September.
CIMX/Windsor, which also covers neighboring Detroit, returned to its longtime alternative format and branding (89X) after a five-year run as a country station.
How long will WDZH 98.7 hold out this time before it goes country.
