Tom Harley
From the footy field to the boardroom, Tom Harley has experienced it all. Tonight on Unfiltered he talks leadership, premierships and his new role.
I think it will be Tom Harley’s first appearance on Seven since he left the network in 2017 to join the Sydney Swans.
I think he left before that or at least his old Friday night timeslot around 2014, when Wayne Carey came in.
He might’ve continued, but it wasn’t prominent and few and far between, local pre-recorded Saturday afternoon games IIRC?
Of which a sort of reunion on Unfiltered, where Hamish McLachlan was the caller, alongside Basil Zempilas, Cameron Ling and Tim Watson. Originally it was Mick Malthouse and somewhat infamously Brett Kirk.
2012-2016. A production Seven inherited from Ten and hadn’t had since 2001 and I never found they took seriously at all compared to the other timeslots. Even in higher rating 2016 I recall the audience in Melbourne for this game being only mid-100k at best (vs 400k+ for live Friday night), which back then was terrible and not sure actually lead-in that well for Seven News with Jennifer Keyte. Although one of those years at year-end Seven claimed that bulletin “won”, surprisingly.
Cameron Ling did Saturday nights, not afternoons, during that 2012-16 period.
Mick Malthouse only did Saturday arvos in 2012, before returning to coach Carlton in 2013. Can’t remember when Tim Watson joined Saturday afternoons, though he did Friday night football during that period.
Saturday arvo football was on a 90-minute delay on Seven in Melbourne but live in Sydney and Brisbane (though this depended on whether their local team/s were playing in that or other timeslots).
Chances are, people may have already been watching it live on Fox Footy and/or listening to it on the radio. When Ten had Saturday arvo football it was initially a 90-minute delay before (at some point) becoming a one-hour delay.
Can also confirm Seven News in Melbourne didn’t win a ratings year during that 2012-16 period, and only won five weeks in 2016 (none between 12-15 inclusive).
