I’ve watched a few of @Zampakid ‘s compilations of WIN4 commercials and there were a few Far South Coast ads pre aggregation, though as expected dwarfed by those for Wollongong/Nowra and the national ads.
CTC7 was similar apparently, mostly Canberra ads but the odd one for Goulburn and Snowy/Monaro businesses. According to my Cooma correspondent, a solitary Bombala business advertised on CTC7 back in the 80s.
You could say the same thing about Far South Coast ads on Wollongong TV.
But obviously there was enough value in it for their businesses, but not for Upper Hunter businesses to advertise on NBN, even though they are closer to Newcastle.
I’d dare say it would’ve been cost prohibitive for Upper Hunter businesses to advertise unless they covered the entire Hunter. Would’ve been more cost effective to advertise on 2NM and the local papers.
The population of the Upper Hunter was not big then, as it is not big enough now (as I keep reminding people when they keep baying on for a Kmart). Anything major you would have to travel to Maitland, Newcastle or Tamworth - this is still the case today
Breezin’ (music videos hosted by Glenn Ridge)
Surprise Surprise (kids show)
Wednesday with Heather (local morning show)
Patty and Pa (another kids show)
After Dark (successor to Breezin’, it only aired on TV8 stations not on Six network)
Bendigo Football League grand finals (there are a few of them including the ads on Youtube)
Football Scoreboard (Central Victorian and Gippsland league football results)
Sport Star of the Year awards nights
I recall reading he did a music video show for BTV-6 called “Off The Record”. Not sure if that was around the same time or not, or if “Breezin” was maybe done out of BTV-6 as well?
“Surprise Surprise” was pretty popular with the local kids.
The BFL grand final always had a big audience.
Interestingly, the Televised Sports Star of the Year awards night ran well into the 2000s. Pretty sure it was last show to use their OB van before they sold it.
and Football Scoreboard continued on Prime7 and 7 Regional when Seven had Saturday night football at half time. Not sure if 7 Regional still has it after they lost Saturday night games (I don’t have relatives in the country any more)
7 Regional dropped the segment following the Prime Media–SWM merger. The segment was originally broadcast on Southern Cross Ten during Ten’s Saturday Night AFL, but in 2012 it moved to Prime when Seven secured the broadcast rights to Saturday Night AFL.
I don’t know how link this property to source but your well off. I remember flicking over to 10 in the 90s for local football scores might not of been outside bcv/glv8 regions though
I know that Football Scoreboard has been around since the mid to late 70s on what was then BCV-8 during the Seven’s Big League replays. One minute of each commercial break was taken up with Alan Besley or Barrie Hanson reading out the football scores from the BCV, GLV and STV viewing areas a few leagues at a time. Note that regional stations at the time had fewer commercials than the metropolitan networks.
I can confirm that Football Scoreboard was on BCV-8 (and GLV & STV-8) in the mid to late 70s and 80s because I lived in the BCV-8 viewing area at the time. Their successor Southern Cross Ten after aggregation had a window at 8.30pm on Saturdays for Football Scoreboard, there were three editions: (1) Bendigo and Gippsland (the legacy markets) (2) Albury and Shepparton (3) Western Victoria. When 10 got the AFL rights in 2002 Football Scoreboard was on half time.
re Football Scoreboard.. This from the Melbourne Age 20 September 1997… looks like a short 5 minute program at 8.25pm on Saturdays on TEN VIC .. did they just chop off the last few minutes of Xena etc?
those were the days they still ran commercial/newsbreaks/promos/idents, etc. in between programs. They probably just put it on in the few minutes between shows?
