TV History - Questions

That’s okay! I am actually quite curious when it aired in France (if indeed it ever got there!) and that’s as good a place to start as any!

It looks like it was funded (at least in part) by Screen Australia but was an Australian/French co-production?

Yeah there was a German company in there too, I can’t remember the name of it though, CLT-UFA or something like that?

CLT/UFA International which appears to have been part of RTL Group which is a large European media group.

From what I can see on Wiki, Village Roadshow in the USA is listed too, not sure of their involvement.

Village Roadshow is Australian but may have had a presence in the US for sales/distribution.

In regards to that Today Y2K special, wonder how much of that actually made it to air or if it was completely preempted after barely anything bug-related did happen.

Wiki seems to be linking to an American subsidiary called Village Roadshow Pictures. That’s also the name listed on Screen Australia.

This website is actually quite funny because it’s like, a government website but this synopsis “The story of an adventurer, David Grief and his Polynesian partner, Mauriri, who amass a fortune and retire to raise thoroughbreds on a huge estate in Australia…” is just blatantly wrong!

Another mystery, as to where they got that one from! There’s only like, one episode where they go to Australia, they’re always barely breaking even, and they don’t own any horses, nor do they ever express a desire to! It’s so wild to me!

Apparently info is sourced by the content creators??

WHAT IS THE SCREEN GUIDE?
The Screen Guide is an online database of Australian* and co-production^ titles amd games, including where possible - the cast, key creative crew, production company and sales agent information.

These titles are not solely funded by Screen Australia. We try to include all titles that are produced nationally. Many titles have been added through our own research or at the request of the content creators. (If your Australian* or co-production^ title isn’t listed and you’d like it to be, please submit your production here).

We aim to keep the Screen Guide as up-to-date and accurate as possible through information provided by the content creator, or another equally reliable resource. If we are unable to validate the information, it will not be published.

You’ll find a full list of our publishing parameters for a production below under SCOPE.

Well I don’t know who they contacted for that one! I wanted to edit the listing but I could only do it if it was “my” listing!

I really am way too deep in the research hole haha

Village Roadshow had an international presence. I saw a movie on a plane in the mid 90’s from an overseas airline not flying to or from Australia and it started off with the Village Roadshow graphics.

With the late 80s sports pay tv discussion here, they played some marking highlights from the time on Sunday Footy Show, and saw this ground advert for Sportsplay, The Sports Network:

who was the abc sydney presenter for the midday news program or maybe it was the afternoon news bulletins during the late 90s or early 2000s? iirc, she had medium length blonde hair, came off a bit frosty, and had a bit of a lip curl when she smiled? this was a random memory that popped up while reading smh articles concerning the abc. now it’s a bit of a brainworm.

Does anyone happen to know the date Channel Seven launched their 1999 On-Air Presentation? I’m aware it was sometime in April, but I’m now especially curious after converting the below material.
