Did BKN-7 have any translator/repeater stations?
No.
There was a plan to have a translator installed at Menindee for BKN but that never eventuated.
A question for those with far longer Sydney TV memories than yours truly.
I get that the supers (if clips Iâve seen elsewhere online are anything to go by, Adelaide seemed to used this style a fair bit longer after Sydney moved onto the red look) and maybe one or two other branding elements were tweaked at some point during Autumn 1999 between the general channel On-Air Presentation relaunch and the new/red look news launching in Sydney & Melbourne, but how long was Seven Sydney doing this style of âNews Update in the Newsroomâ in the lead-up to 6pm bulletins during 1999?
Those snapshots were taken during YouTube uploads from Steve Rutherford and âFor The Love Of Broadcastâ respectively. The first one is definitely from May 10, the 2nd might be from May 31 - some of the stories in the two updates Iâve seen from that day include GST changes/protests, Olympic tickets and Australiaâs progress in the Cricket World Cup, if that helps.
Does anybody remember a kids TV show on the ABC from the 80s called Captain Kookaburraâs Road to Discovery? I canât find any clips of it on YouTube but looking back on it I am convinced that the puppeteers were on some acid trip. Or at the very least on a cocktail of caffeen and Berocca
The name is familiar. There was also Captain Kookaburraâs Australiha. (with the âhâ in Australia) Not sure if it was the same series with a name change or a different show entirely.
Always wondered what that was, I even asked the same question maybe 8 years ago on the old forum (without any luck) thank you!
You see them on Benny Hill and other British comedy re-runs.
Does anyone remember that SCA-produced 9Life ident that aired throughout 2016, before SCA realised they could just air the actual ident (and NineDotComDotAU promos) instead? I made a low-quality version here from someoneâs âfeed comparisonâ video, although the Tyrepower sponsor audio should be ignored.
Did QSTV have its own station IDs?
Does anyone have info on Sevenâs late night news program in 1994 apparently called The Times?
A couple of promos for it appears here (at the start and at 3:45):
I believe âThe Timesâ was the show hosted by Neil Mercer and later Paul Barry. Only ran for a couple of years, although that was still long enough for Full Frontal and Frontline to poke fun of the unique way stories were packaged/produced.
There is an episode of it somewhere on YouTube.
When did TVQ introduce their UHF channels?
On the Gold Coast, I think it was around 1989-1990.
Not sure exactly when.
It was actually back in 1983 when TVQ became available on the Gold Coast from the Mt Tamborine site. The Currumbin translator came on-air in 1988.
Thatâs interesting⌠as when I was there in 1985 and 1988, all hotels I stayed appeared to still receive TV from Brissie, as the reception had minor levels of VHF specific interference such as the random thin white lines, rather than the regular thin black dots that you got with UHF.
Which UHF channels did they use?
Gold Coast - UHF 46
Currumbin - UHF 30
They didnât really advertise the Mt Tamborine transmitter until the late 80âs. High rise hotels etc. were tall enough to give a good reception from Brisbane, so they didnât bother upgrading until they needed to. Also, many TVâs still had the annoying UHF dial in the 80âs or no UHF dial at all. The only benefit of Mt Tamborine would have been NRTV and being able to watch programmes an hour early during daylight saving especailly for tourists south of the border being bale to w atch the relay TCN/TEN News. (Istayed at a new hotel recently that only had a VHF antenna for Brisbane - the Gold Coast channels blocked).
As an example, I stayed in resort in Cairns 2 months after aggregation started in 1991. The TV only had a VHF dial so we could only watch ABC (VHF9) or QTV (VHF10).
The other Currumbin channels were:
ABQ33
BTQ39
NRN42
QTQ45
SBS48
NEN51
NBN54
The TVQ,ABQ,BTQ,NRN and QTQ frequencies were aligned in the same order as the Brisbane & NRN VHF channels 0,2,7,8,9. Obvs no pressing need to re-align TVQ after it became 10 in Brisbane.
How did a TV in 1991 not have a UHF dial? Was it a 1975 model??
