Here’s a sneaky way to get to the airport for 50 cents - take the train to Toombul Station or a bus to Ninth Avenue, Toombul, and take the Brisbane Airport operated shuttle bus for free. Boom - 50c!

Coolangatta is a hellhole when it’s busy like that, hey. I used to fly out of there sometimes as an alternative to BNE as it was often a fair bit cheaper, but with the distance and the chaos it’s just not worth it. Though at least the public bus does drop you at the door.

Qantas has reported a 13.8% drop in its full-year pre-tax underlying profit, due to surging fuel prices from the Middle East conflict. The airline also revealed that it would gradually retire its A380 fleet from 2028 calendar year, as the result of the introduction of A350-1000s and additional Boeing 787 planes.
Qantas also announced a major overhaul of its frequent flyer program, including the ability to earn status credits via credit cards for the first time.

Kelsian opts to retain Rottnest Island ferries in planned $161m tourism asset sale to Journey Beyond
Adelaide-based transport group Kelsian Group (ASX: KLS) has carved out its SeaLink Rottnest Island ferry service from the planned sale of its tourism portfolio to Journey Beyond in a bid to fast-track regulatory approvals for the deal.
The decision, announced alongside a record FY26 result, means Kelsian will retain the Perth-to-Rottnest Island ferry operation, which is serviced by three vessels, and run it alongside its other marine ferry businesses.
Kelsian Group announced plans to sell its founding tourism operations in April last year as the company sought to increase the stability of its revenue base.
The move put ferry services and resorts at some of Australia’s most iconic tourism destinations such as K’gari (Fraser Island) and the Whitsundays in Queensland, Bruny Island in Tasmania and a host of Sydney Harbour cruise operations on the market.
Journey Beyond owns The Ghan and The Indian Pacific rail services in Australia and this year bolstered its tourism portfolio by acquiring the operating rights to the Ayers Rock Resort.
The Rottnest Island announcement came as Kelsian reported record full-year earnings for the 12 months to 30 June 2026.
Statutory net profit after tax rose 16.6 per cent to $63.5 million, while underlying EBITDA climbed 10.8 per cent to $315.8 million, landing at the top end of the company’s guidance range.
Currently at Gold Coast Aiirport on the way back to Newcastle.

It is very sad to see the Qantas Airbus A380-800 fleet go. Since the airline picked up the keys to the superjumbo in 2008, the aircraft has changed how we fly and the technology being used.
The Airbus A380 has flown to various international destinations including London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Los Angeles, Dallas, Johannesburg. Back in 2024, an A380 was even used on a Domestic Flight to transport 485 passengers from Melbourne to Sydney due to thunderstorms. That is due to thr Taylor Swift concert being played in Accor Stadium Sydney

And… I do not believe it, but not only did the flight leave on time, I arrived back EARLY! (by 8 minutes).. That’s a rarity for me, nearly always late.

Virgin beat market expectations with a 13.4 per cent increase in underlying earnings before interest and tax to $753 million, boosted by its fuel hedging strategy and efficiency benefits from a fleet renewal program, allowing it to pay a 7.6¢ a share dividend – the first since it relisted in last year.
Flight JQ7990 from Melbourne carried a crew but no passengers, and arrived 14 minutes early at 9.16am.
The Jetstar’s trial flight also let the Western Sydney Airport ground team practise their work with mock customers. Hundreds of volunteers acted as passengers to test the boarding and baggage systems, but did not actually participate in the flight.
The Jetstar plane also conducted the test to ensure the flight crew’s ability to navigate around the taxiways and the infrastructure around the airport.
