Why can’t Jetstar flights ever run on time? The other night my flight was an hour late arriving into Brisbane.
Qantas is just as bad with its antique fleet of mostly 737s. My last round trip, both flights delayed an hour at gate while the engineers fiddled in the engines. Naturally on both I got the oldest 737s in the fleet.
I pretty much always plan any domestic trip plus or minus 1 hour. They are all as bad as each other.
I was quite nervous when I flew Jetstar from Melbourne to Canberra in June, worried that the flight would depart late because of bad weather in NSW. Fortunately the plane left on time and arrived in the capital five minutes early.
Some of those Qantas jets are over 20 years old
I’ve always found Australian airlines to be the worst for timeliness. 90% of the time they seem to be at least 15 minutes late for departure.
Yep, they’re ancient. I’m constantly working on them. That’s what happened when they’re the workhorse of the fleet. The newer ones from 2011 onwards are in better condition but hard when they’re usually only used on international routes or longer domestic routes.
The majority of Jetstar’s fleet of Airbus A320s are no older than 13 years old.I’ve travelled on one of their new A320 Neo’s recently, the seats were more comfortable, maybe slightly more legroom too👍
We don’t get the severe weather that coastal NSW cops so you’re generally OK flying into Canberra. The main issues with Canberra are fog delays (autumn/early winter mornings) and severe thunderstorms (summer afternoons).
Oh yes, early morning fog during winter is a big factor too.
More on the Spirit of Tasmania
Spirit of Tasmania operators have revealed they may need to be bailed out by the Tasmanian government, with port and ferry costs pushing them to the brink. @ollie_haig #9News pic.twitter.com/v9g01ikD8z

Yes I remember flying there about June or July over 20 years ago and there was a lot of fog that morning and the temperature was only about 4 degrees ![]()
Of course I try to avoid going there in winter, too cold for a Queenslander.
My relatives are used to it though.
The arriving flight was late arriving in Townsville so it’s usually a flow on effect, the aircraft was delayed on its previous journey.
Would that be going to an international depature to another country? I have only had 1 flight that was out by 15 minutes, wasnt too much of a biggy for me , but they lose alot of money if the depart really late, from what i understand.
Anyway, I have never flown jetstar, i have nothing but stories. But I am fairly certain Qantas and Virgin have been good in terms of pricing , quality of service and landing/departure times locally.
No, I’ve consistent experiences with late departures on both domestic and international, the latter being on flights into and out of Australia. Jetstar and QANTAS.
Virgin wasn’t as bad, other than the one occasion where a flight from Newcastle to Melbourne was cancelled. I think the numbers were that low that we all got put on the one bus and flown out of Sydney instead. At least I got a full flight credit for that.
So they can afford to pay the fines and compensation for the emplyeed they sacked during the pandemic.
Qantas mentioned that in this morning’s annual results press release.
Earlier this month, the Federal Court finalised the legal case relating to the outsourcing of Qantas’ ground handling in 2020. Qantas has reiterated its apology to affected former employees for the impact that losing their jobs and the subsequent five-year legal process has had on them and their families. In December, Qantas reached an out-of-court settlement with the Union for $120 million in compensation for former employees and has paid the full penalty that was handed down last week.
