Nathan was just trying to say Gavin was one of the regulars in the mix for a while and we all know cost cutting was purely that - not based on merit or performance.
He was a ‘contender’ which is a reasonable assumption given a lot of similarly tested talent ended up in the various WT hosting roles over the years.
I don’t think he meant nine were specifically planning on Gav

He may very well have been a contender, but whether he was just a name on a list or seriously being considered for the role is something we just don’t know. You can’t say the original plan was to bring him in unless you have evidence or a source to back it up.
My point was he wasn’t trying to spread rumour or go down that path like many here have before.. I think you’re reading too much into it being speculation.
“I think” to me is enough to mean discussion, nothing wrong with implying he might have been a decent choice at once stage.

I think that they may have been considering bringing in Gavin Morris from NBN.
I would have no real issue with it. It is clear that it is their thoughts, and it isn’t out of the realms of plausible: I would assume anyone who has co-hosted recently would at least be on a list somewhere of potentials.
Where my issue lies is not with the “I think”, it’s with the “originally planned”. Planned suggests intention to make happen. There is zero publicly available information to suggest there was ever a plan to make him host. That leaves two options: either they know more information that isn’t publicly available, or they are speculating. Given the basis for the comment was “he hosted in the past” and their history of such posts, it isn’t a long bow to draw.
Maybe it was that user’s dream to have Gavin Morris over given how they’re quite obsessed with Today and everything about it

Regarding Gavin, he himself said that he realised he was on the chopping block when he wasn’t on the Today roster for summer. It was a couple of days later that they told him he was out, but he saw it coming because of the roster. He said this in an interview on ABC Radio last month. He was not a contender.
