Today

Well you’ll be happy to know that The Australian says that staff aren’t happy about the new podcast, despite him being given the green light by management, on the grounds that it is competing with Nine’s own podcast and radio division, as well as the fact he unveield the project on a rival news website, and forcing them to play catch up.

Staff are also not happy about his claims that he is finally “free and independent” to talk to people he is “curious” about, and not having to do spin and being able to have fun, saying

“Let’s face it, Today has basically been the Karl Stefanovic show for the past 20 years,” one senior Nine figure told Diary. “And he’s also travelled the world extensively for 60 Minutes interviewing people for the show.

“The suggestion he’s ever been prevented from talking to people he’s curious about or been forced to spin his stories a certain way is just untrue. It’s all gone down like a lead balloon here.

“Surely, we should be saying, ‘Hey, any chance you might want to tee up all these amazing interviews for the show that still pays you $2m a year?

“Or, you know, at least 2GB?’ ”

The Australian has also revealed that Karl’s contract extension is only for this year, and says word is given two decades of ratings defeats, he could be on the way out and the podcast can give him a soft landing on the way out.

The Australian also says that Sarah Abo is on a one year contract, and that Seven are trying to get her to join it’s Melbourne news team.
