At least they would be more suited to commercial breakfast television than a formal news bulletin ![]()
So are we expecting big changes coming?
From the article:
âIn a recent Daily Mail Inside Media column, it was also reported that Karl Stefanovic may be reconsidering his role on the weekday show amid contract renewals at the end of the year. The network is also reportedly exploring the possibility of moving the showâs production to Melbourne.
Expect more announcements soon â watch this space.â
How big is the Melbourne Studio?? If these reports are true. And if so, they need to build a soft set next to the news set
BS then
The DM article was in the INSIDE MEDIA column, which as has already been mentioned in here is pretty well informed, so I wouldnât be so quick to write it off just cause of the website in general.
I reckon it would be the footy show set.
Itâs possible that they might do a few shows during the year from GTV9. Or they could be looking at moving the weekend edition to Melbourne.
Not the worst idea IMO.
Agree. But itâs important to remember that Today, Today Extra and Weekend Today share a lot of staff and resources. Especially behind the scenes.
Moving one of these productions would increase costs on the network. I cant see Today and Today Extra separating.
At one point, Sunrise used to broadcast from HSV7 on Fridays to win back the Melbourne audience, and that was when Mel was still part of the show. I even got to be in the studio audience for one of the episodes, and it was such a great experience!
Today should consider doing something similarânot every Friday like Sunrise did, but itâd be great to mix it up and get out of the usual studio environment. And if thereâs space, having a studio audience would be a nice touch too.
I believe they did a few years back.
The show came from the main news set at GTV for a week.
2018 was the year
Another possibility, they could be looking at doing sport from Melbourne.
Tuning in this morning, during the weather update just after 8 they had a grid on the super about what was coming up over the hour of the show.
Feel like it might be new, but could be wrong? Havenât seen it before.
Theyâve been doing that for a few years now. The weekday show used to do it. Not sure if they still do?
Yeah wow, I watch more weekday Today than anything and donât evaluate Iâve ever seen it. Interesting
Here is Stellarâs interview article with Karl (paywall)
Yeah, they could bring back Chompers ![]()
IIRC, Today only increased its Melbourne audience (or it remained well ahead) because I know this came at a time when Nine News was winning every week in the ratings, as they did between 2012-15, and 2017.
I doubt it - the reason he quit was due to overload.
