I wasn’t going to comment on this story. But since you guys are discussing it, I’m going to post my response to the Crikey reporter’s questions.
As I’ve stated here before, we NEVER sell editorial as news. The Crikey journo listened to what I had to say and said “ah that makes sense now. We had a few questions about that here but I understand.” She then emailed her questions, which tried to imply that there was some scary investor behind Ticker, which there isn’t. It’s just me and my business partner and we have bootstrapped this thing from scratch.
Despite this and her thanking me, she published the same story she first came to us with. Unless you subscribe to Crikey, you only get to read her set up and headline, and not our response. Talk about integrity.
She also got the name of the Minister wrong.
Anyway, for those interested, here was my full response to her:
Hey Georgia, thanks for touching base. Here’s our reply to your query.
The contract between Ticker Media Group and AusIndustry is a sponsorship opportunity for a program called Ticker Business, not related to news.
The program features Australian businesses who will be interviewed by a Ticker Originals program host, who is completely independent.
In every Ticker Business episode, the program presenter will state that AusIndustry is the presenting sponsor of the program, plus a billboard featuring their logo will appear at the beginning of the program. Throughout the program, a “sponsor bug” with the AusIndustry logo will be on screen.
Ticker editorial is never sold. Ticker News journalists interview dozens of people around the world every day, and after the interview, guests often request to buy a copy of their video interview clip, to post on their socials. This is common practice, including at the ABC. This means we don’t have to raise money through 30 second commercials. This is a separate part to our business to the program sponsored by AusIndustry.
Ticker Media Group has no outside investors, and was started in 2019 by Ahron Young, who bootstrapped the venture, with colleague Jed Bertalli, who is the Chief Operating Officer.
ENDS.
We’ve had plenty of great publicity lately, and we go out of our way to be transparent.
