Three News

It’s a digital series for Stuff’s website and social channels, also packaged as a podcast.

Basically a current affairs type format per Paddy’s other series which aired on Three.

The press release with the details are linked above.

Looks good!

The amount of time they spent last night dedicated to a former prime minister discussing another countries election and his flying hobby would indicate the budget is almost spent :joy:

Hahah I thought the same

How are the viewing figures these days? The way things are going, I’ll be surprised if Three itself lasts the distance. Ah well, Stuff can always team up with TVNZ if the worst happens.

To be fair it doesn’t seem disastrous. I think I read somewhere WBD’s target is for the average to be 200,000+, but still, Newshub with all its costs was sometimes around 190,000. I think it just comes down to how long WB want to pay anything at all for 6pm over repeats of Aussie Gold Hunters lol

Probably not that much less informative than some of Three’s padded bulletins, lol.

I still don’t understand this insistence on going head to head with One. It’s a battle they can’t and won’t ever win. 30 minutes at 7 would make so much more sense.

I hope the 25-54 demo ratings are closer to 1News.

By the same token, Seven Sharp is a ratings powerhouse in the 7pm slot too, right? Would be more or less the same competition as 6pm albeit a slightly different offering.

Why not 5:30pm? No competion in that slot now that there is no Sky Open bulletin, also services people looking for an earlier hit of news.

My thinking is it’s a different audience who would watch at 7 - those who aren’t yet home at 6, so can’t watch One News. They might appreciate a shorter, snappier bulletin. Maybe a 5.30 bulletin could work as well - and then just update that for 7 as needed.

Agreed a 30min 7pm bulletin would make sense against Seven Sharp and it’s weird light as fluff format.

It may not rate its tits off but it’s getting stuff much needed video content for online as well, it’s providing benefit for all stakeholders.

I’d pay to see this turned into a Cheap Seats type show once a week, would surely pop off

Looks like the old Newshub desk, eh?

Looks quite garish, but technically very competent.

I have to say, all things considered, the graphics aspects have gone off without a hitch so far, presumably on a lower budget. ThreeNews set still looks good IMO.

I assume much of it is because this has all started as Newshub-lite with ex-Newshubbers still running the show from the Newshub studios.

Will be interesting to see what happens when they have to move to another studio and assuming they won’t have as many in-house advantages they’ve enjoyed so far.

There have been a few minor glitches, a blank screen or quick switch in the background, but nothing major (other than cutting the feed one night before the weather - as reported upthread). Also the occassional slip of the tongue, ala “Newshub.”

It has been pretty good, and still offers a decent alternative to the State broadcaster.

Samantha Hayes slipped out the word “Newshub” before signing off tonight’s bulletin; even though she did giggled for a bit  (10/10/2024)
