No, there’s none. Quiz shows (and anything) being stripped 5 nights a week are habit builders and flow into news etc.
Lost in all the speculation as to who will be the main host of the show, is who should be the show’s commentator (the one who says “x was the weakest link, with x incorrect answers, while x was the strongest link banking x amount for the team” etc.).
I reckon any one of Peter Hitchener, Brett McLeod or Tony Jones could do it.
8:30 is calling out for some content!
Hitchener is WAY too nice. And Tony Jones hosting would remove any interest I had in this show.
Yeah it would be a stretch for Tony to be Mr Nasty
Perhaps a certain soon to be ex Sunrise host known for being somewhat toxic.
This could definitely work post 8.30pm. Game shows struggle to stand on their own these days but this might work as a good later night option once a week with a good lead in.
This isn’t 1994, we don’t need the unseen announcer signing off over the end credits.
Agreed. We don’t need to strip every single format.
Do we even know who it was last time around?
The announcer on The Cube doesn’t even get a mention in the full credits list on Ten’s website for the show. It wasn’t there last time I looked, anyway.
Wikipedia says Marcus Irvine, who apparently also did Deal or No Deal for a number of years.
They should Audition Louise Wallace for this, she can definitely do the job!
Getting the New Zealand host from 20 years would be a very odd move.
It’s a shame Cornelia Frances has passed. It would’ve been great to have her host once again.
I remember as a 8/9 year old watching the original series. I loved it. Now I’m showing my age.
Pamela Rabe would be a good choice I think.
She’s aged fairly well, and she brings a familiarity to the show. The success of the format internationally the first time around was by replicating the host. Anne Robinson, Cornelia Francis, Louise Wallace etc
Louise Wallace has been quite charismatic on The Project NZ, and was great on Real Housewives of Auckland. You would also guarantee at least one international sale
PS She would also be quite cheap.
…and probably unheard of by the majority (if not all?) Australians.
Magda Szubanski confirmed as host. Source: Today.
I don’t see this working. Sure Magda has wit but she’s never been seen as mean.
I take your point but this isn’t really quiz hosting as much as acting
Sure, and Cornelia Francis was great at it because she spent years playing the villain. Likewise with Jane Lynch. Magda has a great comedy background but it will be hard to see “Sharon Strzelecki” dishing out slams.
I could be wrong, its just hard for me to see Magda as anything but nice.
