Not surprised at all. Tbf I only watch a few FTA shows these days there all recorded or via Kodi then the rest is via streaming services. Even my parents who are almost 70 hardly watch FTA tv anymore. And if they do its via catch up.
The French have the right idea. All channels in HD with fairly decent programming. British Freeview is a disgrace. The SD channels have such poor picture quality that they’re simply unwatchable. Which matches the programming, I guess!
I think there’s talk of manufacturers starting to include 5G reception in TVs as (if?) the terrestrial transmitters are shut off. Which is certainly an intriguing proposition. Really I think the Competition Commission dropped the ball not approving Project Kangaroo all those years ago. Can you imagine? We’d be so much further ahead now…
Pardon my ignorance, but what was Project Kangaroo??
Sorry should have explained. It was a planned joint streaming service between the BBC, ITV and Channel
4. Basically a cross between Britbox and the channels’ catch-up services.
Such a missed opportunity IMO.
Sorry for not being up to date on UK TV, but are the HD channels there still only available on DVB-T2 and the SD channels on DVB-T? If it is that’s just a silly system for it in 2025.
Yes that’s right. I think some SD channels are also broadcast on DVB-T2 but most are on DVB-T.
Thanks
Why were they considering naming a British VOD service after an Australian animal?
Because it would have turned television upside down
I call BS on that graph completely
I don’t trust anything OzTAM said back then, don’t trust them now. Call me a conspiracy theoirst, bjut I don’t.
I’m with you on this
Agreed. Over 6 out of 10 people watching FTA? We all know this is false. Of course a company joint-owned by 7, 9 and 10 are going to put out something like this.
I’m hard pressed to name people I know who watch live FTA, let alone 6 out of 10
Where’s Foxtel in all these numbers?
The majority of people I know watch FTA for news, breakfast shows, game shows and sport. Some also use streaming, other don’t. Range of ages.
I know one person outside of my family who watches FTA. That’s probably a concern.
