The Agenda Setters

Nine Newspapers game T.A.S. a B- and Footy Classified a B+

There’s something different about this one, but I can’t immediately put my finger on it … oh, wait. THERE’S A WOMAN ON IT!

After endless blokiness, I can’t tell you how great it is to see a woman talking about the game. And not just any woman, but Caroline Wilson, who seriously knows her stuff (and also writes for this masthead).

Alongside her are Kane Cornes, Craig Hutchison – whose company produces the show – and Nick Riewoldt. They’re all seated in a line at a big desk, its lower regions made out to look like a tearout from a red-top tabloid.

The Agenda Setters sets its agenda immediately: the opening titles feature press clippings, but only from the Kerry Stokes-owned West Australian and 7 News. No one else covers this game, apparently…

This is a new line-up, and it’s hard to gauge if the mix is going to work or not. The vibe is at times fractious. Riewoldt and Wilson are clearly going to have their differences, but there’s mutual respect there. Cornes? He’s like an annoying thing on the ball of your foot, though it’s a role he seems to have willingly embraced. Hutchison is just trying to keep it from crashing off the rails. It might turn out to be train-wreck TV. But that could be all the more reason to watch.

Has the reviewer never seen Footy Classified before this year?

Also not sure if its been mentioned, however for the Tuesday edition (tonight) Kane is in the hosts chair, with Caro, Daisy Thomas and Luke Hodge.

I really enjoyed the agenda setters. It’s definitely a copy of footy classified. But i expected that. They could just slicken the set up a bit. I hope they stick with it. I think the Tuesday version was the best.

Timeslot change next week in AFL states for the main channel encore to earlier in the night.

Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell was on the panel tonight, filling in for Kane Cornes who is taking a break.

During the show, Mitchell admitted his meeting with West Coast captain Oscar Allen in Perth in April didn’t play out the way he thought it would.

Herald Sun reports tonight that the May 13 episode of the show has been removed from 7plus and Seven’s social media platforms. It contained comments made by Kane Cornes to the four umpires at the centre of the Lachie Schultz concussion saga. Cornes had said on that episode that the umpires should be stood down for a month for overlooking Schultz’s concussion.

Cornes made an on-air apology on SEN earlier this evening.

Where is this? I noticed they’ve swapped Hutchy and Nick’s seats. Looks a little less like Classified now.

Overall the show looks dark for some reason?

Disagree looks like they are on a miniature set… looks awful. Also what is with the AI generated skyline on the left? it looks awful… thats not even a Australian city - or an attempt at one, just with the MCG plonked next to it.

Yes, the desk doesn’t fit well. Great for a standing presentation but looks very small when you add the desk in.

Would have looked better coming from HSV7… but I guess they can’t accommodate due to news running in that studio.

I agree. Looks terrible. The last space was much bigger.
