Ten (Tasmanian Digital Television)

Just checked and it looks like the TDT website is back up, with the TDT logo. Not sure when it went back up but for a while there it was simply redirecting to SCA.

The new TDT logos have appeared on the Foxtel iq3. This is good considering there was never a logo before.
Looks like they have finally decided on a brand anyway. I do find it odd though as it is called Nine Tas on the tv name. Surely you would keep the channel name as TDT if you wanted the brand to live on?
Or perhaps TDT9 or something. I personally think the “TDT” name should’ve been dropped altogether. Fair enough, when it first launched use it, but it’s a silly and pointless brand in the scheme of things now.

It’s such a weird decision. Could it be because Southern Cross and WIN share the same market? It stops Southern Cross from having 2 of their brands (SCTV and Nine) in one market?
This makes the most sense really. That or they are following orders from WIN to not use the 9 branding (except for on-air obviously which might be difficult to block for SCA… at least for now!!).

TDT takes the Melbourne feed of Nine, right? Does TDT produce its own promos, or do they use Nine’s promos complete with “…on Nine” voiceover?
Yep. No, like other regions they use straight Nine promos. All SCA are currently doing are inserting the local ads. I’m eagerly awaiting for the TDT branding to start creeping in more and more.:yum:

Not that I want this to happen personally, but I wonder how long it will be until WIN pressures SCA into using TDT branding (eg, promos with the logo and an “…on TDT” VO endtag) for all elements of the channel? Although just as long as there’s no Nine watermark coverups and a simulcast of the main channel in HD (something which some other regional markets don’t have the luxury of seeing!) is still running, I probably wouldn’t bother complaining.

Although personally, I agree that it’s ridiculous. I also wonder why this sort of thing appears to only be happening with TDT and not any of the other joint venture stations that WIN is involved with.

Probably because TDT is the only joint venture that WIN have with SCA, and also the only joint venture that they don’t directly manage.

Maybe they’re less fussed about the others because Prime didn’t “steal” their deal with Nine.

Realistically, given that all on air presentation is branded as NINE, and the channel is named “NINE” on the TV, would anyone at all in Tasmania (apart from those on here) even know that Nine and TDT are the same channel.

Wouldn’t most people see these ads with a massive TDT and wonder “what the hell does TDT stand for?”

Yes although from what I understand most TV listings identify “TDT” rather than “Nine” so that might help with some brand recognition. But for a visual medium to have such a poor/ambiguous branding it’s pretty poor. Just be “Nine” and be done with it.

One could be forgiven for thinking that TDT means “Tasmanian Daylight Time”.

If you’re so worried about the 9 / TDT brand surely the first place you would want to remove the 9 brand / have your own TDT brand is on air bugs, promos and iDs

 • that is BY FAR the most prominent / exposure of any tv station brand

Yet that’s the one they leave as Nine
Correct. From what I’ve seen most of the local listings are now “TDT” instead of “Nine”. I was secretly hoping the “TDT” branding would disappear once the switch took place. But alas, not the case. :worried:
Yeah, “steal”. Only because they pissed Nine off so much and threatened them. WIN have no-one to blame but themselves here.
I wouldn’t be at all shocked if the TDT branding didn’t become more prominent on-air at some stage. WIN would be hating the fact the complete Nine branding is coming through on TDT. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Imagine SCA having to resort to blocking all the Nine branding just because WIN don’t like it.

According to the RegionalTAM ratings for the week of 21-27 August, TDT (Nine Tasmania) outrates WIN, both in main channel & network shares, for the first time since the affiliation swap.

Uh-oh! :yum:

You’d hope for WIN’s sake this doesn’t start becoming a regular trend. Will be interesting to see if their shares start to pick up again once Georgia Love’s ‘The Bachelorette’ begins in a couple of weeks time.

Perhaps people don’t hate Nine content as much now on TDT unlike when it was on WIN.

Interestingly the TDT website has the 9 logo on it again… They obviously can’t decide on a brand at all LOL anyway I sent an email to the general manager of TDT regarding the status of 9Life and got the typical one-liner response :rage:

Thank you for your email.

9Life wasn’t a part of the recent affiliation agreement with Nine. At the moment there are no current plans to broadcast 9Life.

So they have have http://www.tdtv.com.au. WIN must be incensed seeing all those Nine logos on there! :yum::grin: Hopefully they have decided to drop the newer style ‘TDT’ logo in favour of the 9 logo like in the other SCA9 regions.

Ha. Not sure what you were expecting with getting that stock standard response regarding 9Life. I’d be really surprised to see 9Life ever again broadcast here to be honest. There’s more chance of SCA picking up 7flix to broadcast locally IMO.
We should just be thankful that we got Nine + 2 out of the 3 multichannels down here at all considering how WIN feels about the whole situation.

Well I was hoping there would be a reason why it wasn’t included in the negotiations but I perhaps answered it myself. I basically said it’s not rocket science to run a business at a loss and was more looking for confirmation it was an economic issue rather than a technical one.

But as we have all speculated in the past, it seems the advertising market is just too small to make broadcasting viable.

It’s not a case of some just slipping through either, will be interesting to see the next time TDT sponsor an event which logo is used. I reckon it caused confusion and turned off people advertising with them.

What they should be using is one incorporating both the logos like they did previously under Ten.

 • i.e. ‘TDT 9’ and using the proper logo of course.

It’s interesting to read all the comments purporting that ‘WIN must be incensed to see all those Nine logos on there’ when both WIN and SCTAS are 50% partners. One could argue that SCTAS was equally incensed to see all those Nine logos on there when in reality neither are really concerned about the web branding. The only reality is that branding aside, both WIN and SCTAS receive their share of revenue that TDT generates, it’s not about competition here, it’s about revenue.
