A weekly show, 48 Hours Australia, maybe?
And that is saying something!
I think whatever it is (and we still donât really know), 10âs new initiative needs to be a heightened, entertaining - yes maybe tabloid - version of current affairs. It needs to be more ACA than 7.30. More Hinch than Negus.
Straight, âseriousâ content is not what sits well with their brand. It never has.
Good grief.
What if this show bombs though, what will they replace it with?
Statement on The Project
Network 10 today announced that after almost 16 years and 4,500 episodes The Project will cease production.
The last episode will air on Friday, June 27.
From Monday, June 30 10âs early evening program schedule will be as follows:
-
5pm: 10 News local bulletins (no changes)
-
6pm: New one-hour national news, current affairs and insights program (name, hosts and further details will be announced in due course)
-
7pm: Deal or No Deal (moves from 6pm to 7pm)
There are no further details about the new national 6pm news, current affairs and insights show. Further announcements will be made in due course.
The changes to the schedule reflect the successful growth in audiences to the local news bulletins and coverage (the 10 News local bulletins are up 12% YOY). Our focus continues to be on serving our free-to-air audiences with more of the content they are increasingly watching.
This sounds quite good. Will be interesting to see how it goes against the local news on other networks.
Obviously it will be multi platform to leverage the content. 6 nights as week is a large commitment.
Sounds like a cheaper, less comedy focused project. At least that sounds like it will provide wriggle room for a variety of content.
Better audience flow than news, game show, news/current affairs too.
Blankety Blanks is well overdue for a reboot, IMHO â though knowing Paramount, theyâd probably just give us another episode of Steve Harvey Family Feud or reruns of The Bold and the Beautiful lol
This line up makes so much more sense that what had been intimated earlier. It may not move the ratings dial very much but it is less likely to go backwards AND it maintains a similar level of Australian content.
DOND at 7pm is a good move IMO.
So whereâs Millionaire going then?
Assuming now that it is airing back to back with Sydneyâs 5pm News, that this new bulletin wonât be coming from auditorium set, instead probably where The Sunday Project comes from now (and formerly Studio 10 and The Living Room).
A shame. They couldâve done something really good with it.
I know theyâve hired all this talent, but I reckon Hugh Riminton would be a great choice of host. Iâd be putting Chris Bath on the Sunday program (presuming the 6th day is Sunday), with either Ursula Hager or Lachlan Kennedy (or Narelda when she returns) taking over the weekend 5pm News.
Or Sarah Harris
Itâs expected to be a weekly show and not a striped version like Hot Seat. It was just people mocking schedules on here where it came from.
Could we see it take on a Friday slot or take over from Love It or List It?
So the strategy here is that if the project cost 10 $15m a year and this costs $10m and they own the IP and all the content then the money side of things is a net gain for 10.
Potentially but thatâs best left for the Who wants to be a millionaire thread and not here.
Canât they just take it at 10pm. This new news program
I donât actually mind this approach of hard hitting news at 6pm.
Could definitely do well IMO leading out of 10 News First state-based editions.
