After recording its lowest numbers for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I’ve got no doubt the decision has now been finalised with senior management this week.
I think they’re treading water to fill-in the gap until they can relaunch something else and consult Paramount for approval.
As highlighted last week, Millionaire is being put into production in September. This could be re-tooled to launch as a 5 day format.
I say get rid of it when BB launches. Network 10 are reviving that show and they want it to work not just with those craving nostalgia (who grew up with the OG incarnation in the noughties), but also any new fans of today they can pull in (younger viewers).
Otherwise BB’s comeback with the OG format and on its OG network may suffer in the ratings. And what would be to blame? A ratings-bomber shocker i.e 10 News+.
Keeping a ratings-losing show like 10 News+ on when BB launches with much fanfare (and shafting DoND in the process for BB) would be a huge and very costly mistake. As most have said, extend the metro news by 1/2 hour to 6:30pm, DoND at 6:30pm, then BB at 7pm. There, a chance at ratings success.
In the famous words of Big Brother: It’s time to go… 10 News+ (we can all hope)
They’re just soldiering on with the program at the moment as if they’re ratings winners. Now if they’re really going to wait until BB is about to launch, expect an announcement probs in late October regarding the cancellation of 10 News+.
I’m still surprised that 10N+ is the direction that they chose when they had BB waiting in the wings
You can say what you will about The Project but you can imagine evicted BB housemates being interviewed on it (perfect cross promo), not to mention evictees from 10’s other reality shows. And even if they had heavier stories, most of the show aimed to be lighter, so it wouldn’t be jarring advertising BB during it.
How can they promote BB (a show that skews younger and aims to be a little cheeky) on 10N+ - like you can’t have a promo that’s advertises that’s nights wacky challenge, cheeky hijinks, and a dramatic eviction on that night’s BB, before an in depth story on the war in Gaza or Ukraine.,
Just because we don’t watch it doesn’t mean we can’t come on here and speculate about its demise (and make various memes, tongue-in-cheek mocks and broadcast anomalies about it). We’re all doing it.
Are we being forced to be positive about a show that’s constantly losing viewers? Positive about a show that’s too serious and very slow? And positive about a show that’s being labelled by many as Temu ACA? Seriously. We have every right to speculate and be negative about this new offering.
It’s baffling 10 are seemingly opting to just do nothing and ignore the problem - and the longer they do that the less chance there is to salvage something from it. Cutting the weeknight editions to 30 minutes and extending the 5pm news to 6.30pm was such an obvious solution to try and shore up the ratings a bit.
But these “obvious solutions” that everyone keeps coming up with are not guaranteed to succeed.
Extending news to 90 minutes was tried and failed yet people keep suggesting it as a solution. If 10 News+ is failing as a one hour it is likely to still fail as a half hour show.
We can agree that the 10 News+ brand is dead. A 30 minute edition (IF the 5pm News goes to 90 minutes) isn’t the best answer either. A quick fix, perhaps, but def not mid-to-long term.
Some have said to have two game shows at the 6pm hour also. But a few have said to air them ASAP. It doesn’t work out that way. They film a crap load of episodes months in advance. Editing ais a long process too. Would work if they promote them for months (10 loves doing that) and air them from January onwards.
10 News+ will stay until the ratings season ends. 10 can start fresh for 2026. And 10 can say that the new show is 300% higher from year to year
