Ten News First Presenters and Reporters

Nothing wrong with that, but I think Jen could have added something like “we will have more on this on The Project at 6.30pm”.

In all fairness it is breaking news, it evolves and I doubt 1 want to deviate their whole rundown for the night

I don’t think she needed to say, “We will confirm later” That’s just piss poor.

She could have mention more details in late news, project etc.

Yes that sounds better but I think you’re overreacting.

The news team would’ve had less than a minute to learn about the breaking news given that the Vatican released details at 5.58PM AEST. Sounds like she didn’t even have time to sign off properly, let alone mention further details in their other bulletins.

Sounds sloppy but tbf the news broke literally at the last minute of the bulletin and Ten being such a tight ship i imagine didn’t have flexibility to stay on for the late breaking news. Just a few seconds to hurriedly sign off by the sound of it?

Sanda Suuly also mentioned in the last seconds of the Sydney bulletin.

We have to leave you with some sad news, not confirmed, but early reports indicate that The Pope may have just have passed away. More details in the Late News.

Sandra’s wording was definitely better, but not a huge deal IMO.

Massive overreaction

At least they mentioned it. It could have been worded a little better.

Brisbane would have had nothing, given they were in the pre-recorded segments, and the weather/sign-off filmed before the news broke, which is more of a failure for 10 and needs to be fixed.

That is definitely a bigger issue than the way it was mentioned above.

I agree - by the sounds of it, might be that someone just fed them the information through the ear piece at the last minute, and they weren’t sure what was going on.

Literally what would have happened

Yep - it’s breaking news, and it’s breaking news on what is usually a quite day for news. They probably also had only reported that he had made a public appearance the previous night (early morning Europe time), so that might’ve added to any hesitation or confusion.

I just looked on Facebook, and it was the lead story in Perth (the time difference helps). They also had reactions from the Prime Minister in the fourth break. Perth always seem to be on the ball which is good and can quickly throw to a reporter in the news room for big breaking news. They did this last night and then threw to Hugh’s package.

A shame Nat isn’t used more for national gigs at 10. She presents so well.

I also love how they are utilising the resources they have with the reporter on the screen

Plus, that set is way better than ATV’s. So much brighter

Amanda Jason on weather tonight in Sydney. Josh probably taking a few days leave with the public holidays on this week.

She hasn’t been a regular fill in of late but maybe she’s open to working more shifts.

As you say, having a 2 hour lead time makes all the difference. The east coast had literally only seconds to pivot before signing off at 6.00.

Matt Karstunen on The Dog House tonight with his mother.

Wonder if 10 has sent anyone to Türkiye to cover ANZAC day commemorations? They had Johnpaul Gonzo there last year, but he’s obviously in Rome covering the Pope’s passing.

Tbh I think I would’ve rather seen 10 forgo the scheduled Lunchtime, Afternoon & Late news bulletins tomorrow in lieu of coverage of ANZAC Day here and abroad, seems more appropriate I guess - especially for a public holiday.

Do what everyone else is doing? Not enough people would watch, especially for the outlay involved. Maintaining some consistency in scheduling (eg: regular bulletins) isn’t a bad strategy.
