Kate Freebairn has signed off from 10 News First Adelaide as she goes on maternity leave.
Alan Murrell anchored the bulletin tonight.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I take it that the bulletin will now be fully local in the sense that it’ll be produced from Adelaide (rather than Sydney as it has been for two years) while Freebairn is away?

Seems like it. Kate was the only Sydney-based presenter they have used for the current version of the bulletin.
All fill-ins have been from Adelaide.

Also come to think of it, Ten Adelaide could use the upcoming period to trial regular production from Adelaide, similar to what happened in Perth in March 2023 when production was quietly returned to Subiaco, initially as a trial, before it was made permanent in December that year.

Hopefully we will see it permanently reverted back to ADL. I think Alan would be a perfect choice to take over from Kate.

It won’t be as easy as you think - they’d need to build a proper set (I think there is only a small desk only large enough to fit one presenter, in front of a green screen) and update the infrastructure, among other things.

I’m also of the opinion that the Brisbane desk/set is still only temporary.

It’s literally presented there atm. There are no changes necessary unless they want to allow both presenters to be seen at the desk at once.

The problem is the presentation and flow of the bulletin is actually better when they’re throwing between Sydney and Adelaide. Having it presented entirely out of Adelaide with the current set up, it seems they can’t cross to the newsroom for political analysis, breaking news, sports previews etc which makes it all a little stale and disjointed with package after package and this strange situation where the news and sports presenters swap places at the desk (unless sport is pre-recorded).

I’m all for presentation being fully local, but unless they invest something, the overall quality of the bulletin seems to suffer.

They already do this every Friday and whenever Kate is away

Don’t they have a small area in the newsroom where they do the daytime updates for InDaily?

Yeah, that’s the same area in the newsroom that a lot of live crosses are done when presentation is in Sydney. Problem is they don’t seem to be able to use the Adelaide green screen and newsroom presentation area at the same time.

Well surely if this ends up being a full time thing surely they could do a rejig of space like they did in 2011 to have a proper desk and space - even if they brought out an old desk and plasma and put it in the newsroom like they did in the news revolution day that would surely be an improvement

Yeah. I know the studio space is super small but i wonder if there is enough room to build a much smaller version of the Queensland set.

Yes it would be really cramped but really all they need is a screen and LED lighting around it, and they could use the desk that was used during the election coverage along the couch area.

I’m not sure how big the space is but i know it’s not very big. Could they build a little room at the back of the Newsroom?

Tiffany Warne is presenting in Adelaide from tonight with Josh Webster on weather “across 2025”.

Veteran State Political Editor for NSW parliament Paul Mullins who worked for 10 as long as I can remember has passed away age 79. Sandra with a small tribute at the end of the bulletin.
