So I guess if I lived in TAS I’d be watching the 7 News bulletin as it’s local 7 nights a week.
That bulletin must rate its arse off.

Not sure what the strategic thinking is for playing such a remote bulletin such as Melbourne - I assume they just take the Melbourne feed fully with local ads.
I doubt playing the QLD bulletin would make a difference, no one is watching. They don’t have any other choice - 10 won’t produce a bulletin.
And with Tasmania, WIN has outsourced their production and Nine couldn’t come to an agreement to produce Nine News Tasmania, so the cost-benefit seemingly just isn’t there for these small markets.
Remember 10 News First Darwin?
Pretty much basically. I could be wrong but I think I remember reading ages ago that 7 Tasmania had 3 times the audience as Nine News Melbourne.
Nine are crazy not to enter the TAS market then. I wonder what happened to that.
I think there was a vague mention (or PR spin?) some time ago that AFL reports/coverage in the Melbourne bulletins would be of interest to Darwin viewers.
it does
Seven have the Melbourne news in Darwin as well. It makes absolutely zero sense given how far Darwin is from Melbourne (although was not unwelcome by this Melbourne tourist when I went up there a few years ago)
Playing the Melbourne bulletin for AFL news does make sense to me
Surely the local bulletins will always win.
Nine News Darwin must smash 7 News “Melbourne”.
I’d be interested to see the Darwin numbers and whether Nine has recovered after reinstating the “local” bulletin.
More like Nine News Perth.
The bulletin gets around 65,000 but is by far the top rated program in the state with Home and away next then whatever Seven has on at 7.30pm.
ABC News does ok and gets about half that of Seven approx 35k while WIN gets 10-15k.
Nine and 10 fluctuate because measuring small numbers in small markets means that one ratings box can have a big impact; but between 3k and 10k with 10 usually in front.
Wow. Huge numbers.
yes.
They probably don’t.
Darwin will take the 7 and 10 Melbourne bulletins due to the AFL sports coverage.
Central get’s the QLD bulletin.
Darwin get’s the Melbourne bulletin for AFL apparently, but IIRC it use to be Brisbane. I think 10 shows the Melbourne bulletin because like Seven, SCA handles playout.
Just a thought. If 10 needs a new control room and crew to launch a local bulletin into Brisbane, it might be more beneficial in upgrading its Perth studios instead.
Due to different times-zone, the network could easily run both Brisbane / Perth and Late News out of Perth.
This would be the most economical scenario I can see going forward.
That would be an ideal solution. Good thinking
Hate to play devil’s advocate in this case, but wouldn’t they argue they’d be left with redundant resources at Pyrmont that are currently used to control the Brisbane bulletin?
Would still be required, as Perth is still controlled from Sydney.

No. Pyrmont would control the Sydney bulletin, along with Midday and Afternoons. Melbourne does its local news plus Adelaide’s.
Sydney Control = Sydney Local News, Midday News, Afternoon News
Melbourne Control = Melbourne Local News, Adelaide Local News
Perth Control = Brisbane Local News, Perth Local News, Late night News
Melbourne controls Afternoons just FYI ^
I know, but in this scenario you could have Sydney do it.
