“Stretching the bulletin”
Is the wrong way to go
They should have launched a new bulletin at 6. And treated it like a new show.
I’M adément on this.

Shame the recorded parts like the finance and 10 daily segment are not in HD. The picture quality was poor.
Overall it was a good bulletin. Very watchable. I happened to get home early and watched it all and it wasn’t boring. I normally switch to 9 at 6 because I don’t get to see the main news on 10 at 5 normally but they’ve done a good job with limited resources.
10 have done well in 2019 in slowly building news back up. And then if they replicate the efforts in 2020 the news department will be much better and hopefully close to 2011 levels eventually.
Hopefully ore output and content to come from them. They don’t ever need to beat 7 or 9. They just need to be making more money than they were when they had game shows there.
good to hear your opinion. But it’s got nothing on the real world.
WIN Queensland running in parallel with 10 so far with 10 News Brisbane weather playing at 6pm.
What’s the real world? 10 News?
I’ve worked in TV 22 years. In 3 continents. In marketing and audience retention. I know viewer habits and what it takes to get people to watch. They’ve done it wrong. And there would be 1200 news directors At Us local stations that agree with me. And what 10 is twins to do here is a very US Local news thing.
But 10 can’t put a foot wrong to you. You’re non objective. You defend everything they do. So you’re not credible. I both praise and criticize 10
They’ve done this wrong. No doubt. I stand by that 100%
Mate, take a breath… step back and look at how 10 are putting this together. They are NOT looking for a new audience, they are NOT looking at destroying 7 & 9’s ratings - not yet… they ARE looking to address the decline caused by game shows at 6pm.
But, unlike you - which I agree would be the way to launch a new show - they are NOT launching a new show… yet.
Move on.
Does anyone have any stats on the number of people arriving home and switching on? How big is this potential market vs switching/retaining existing viewers at 5-6.
For WIN, a special message was played from Georgie “And that’s where we end the bulletin; your local WIN News is next” played after the weather while Georgie was live on 10.
Potentially the weather that started about 30 seconds before 6pm could have been skipped by WIN totally.
I don’t mind the slightly stretched bulletin… still strikes a pretty good balance between not messing with the current 5 to 6pm product and providing something new at 6 while trying to prevent switch over. Wouldn’t have told them to do it any differently but will still be interesting to see if they code it differently for ratings.
Only thing I’d say is don’t provide the blatant opt out for WIN in the eastern states. WIN should just switch over after the weather without a prompt.
6pm is a massive switch on for “HUTs”

20 has IGNORED this
Give it a rest. You’re saying the same thing in every… single… post.
Get over it.
The dreaded “10
Has a great idea but stuffs it up on execution”
Has struck again
They are brilliant in entertainment - the best or any network.
6pm-7pm and news they have been running around in circles for 20 years
Imagine if they put local news at 6 10 years ago and left it, so we think it would be getting 150k like name game? No - prob 400-500k
They have no confidence in their plans. They chop and Change every 6 months. And they have confused the viewers. 10 were once #1 at 6 with news. Since then it’s been 27 different shows at 6.
No wonder people desert them
Just put it there, make it damn good, promote it - and leave it!!! But they can’t.
They be back with a game show in April
Georgina has refered to the 6pm portion as 10 News First, Fast, twice now. I’m fairly confident that if this trial is deemed a success, the 6pm section will be officially launched as a new bulletin using that name.
It’s much better than what Ten did in 2011. (When George Negus was moves to 6.30). I’m surprised.
Tv Guides at 6 show “…”
Thee are listing it as a 90
Minute bulletin
Huge mistake
Oh 10
I’d blame the ownership issues. If Blackley and Mott we’re still there they’d still have news at 6. Murdoch and packer and other idiots ruined ten in 2011.
Video:
Agreed. I think just about everyone here wants the additional 6pm half hour of 10 News First to do well for them, however the execution of what we saw tonight wasn’t great.
“We have to make the transition from 5pm to 6pm as seamless as possible, because viewers will change the channel if we tell them the time” - I mean, really? Surely those viewers who have been watching 10 News First at 5pm but want to switch over to Seven or Nine at 6pm will do so regardless?
And I would’ve thought that the main point of 10 News First introducing a 6pm half hour is to attract the disgruntled Seven/Nine viewers who still miss having a compact 22 minute (excluding ads) news bulletin! You’re not going to do that if the bulletin is presented in a way that viewers turning on at 6pm will feel like they’ve missed out on something!
Nine and Seven went from 30 mins of news to 1 hour without feeling the need to launch a separate 6:30pm bulletin. Ten are doing the same here.
