That wasn’t the reason. The “first” moniker was that they put news first before all the bullshit that characterises commercial news. That is just the news without the fluff or consumer and sensationalist focus of 7 and 9.
Probably not ideal but it wasn’t because they wanted a nod to heritage.
I understood it was also this (the heritage) which I thought was kinda cool among all the other ways ‘first’ was perceived. Anyway, seems a moot point seeing they’re dropping it.
It seems 10 News Brisbane beat Melbourne last night (and wasn’t too far off Sydney).
Also, Lachlan Kennedy referring to the lunchtime bulletin as just ‘10 News Lunchtime’ today. Presumably already easing audiences into them dropping the ‘First’.
Technical difficulties during the last segment of the Lunchtime news today, Returning from the break shown the two vertical screens on the left turned off, before it cut to Josh who presented the weather without the big screen. No wide shots after the weather or theme music.
A remarkable +50% improvement for 10 News Brisbane over the previous year. Shows what some investment can do. Interested to see how many of 10’s new news viewers stay around for 10 News + in a week’s time.
Yes the current promotional strategy is ridiculous. Yes, they’re promoting the new offering coming off the back of the local 5pm but they’re not promoting the brand 10 news at all. There’s no network promo doing the rounds.
They also need to run more hyper local promos to demonstrate that they’re still there in the local market.
In fairness the past week of 10 News+ promos is at least something - prominent in prime time, in program graphics and I’ve also seen promos on streaming which I can’t recall ever seeing. Has the happy side effect of also promoting the 5pm news.
It is something at least, and more than I’ve seen in a very long time, hopefully they keep it up.
I agree - hopefully they do keep this up, however, their track record sadly shows that they make a really decent promo that only get’s shown for a few weeks, then there is nothing for months, apart from short 10 second promos at the end of updates.
The only thing to counter this perhaps is it seems they’re occupying advertising space previously occupied by The Project for the most part so hopefully that gets allocated to 10 News+ on an ongoing basis. Again, happy side effect also of promoting 5pm if they do it right.
