Most of that reasoning would have been because ATV & TVQ were still transmitting on Channel 0. Yes, ATV changed to 10 in early 1980 but nearly nine years later, Brisbane was still stuck with 0. From the late 70’s until September 12th 1988 (2 days after Brisbane changed to 10) the sign off on news reports and national branding (GMA and then in '87 the 10.30 news) was simply Eyewitness News. Brisbane also received similar network promos with the Eyewitness News branding at the end as well with the station identified. It also helped Capital 7 in '88 as well. Saying that, here in Brisbane in the 80’s when somebody said Eyewitness News, you straight away associated it with Channel 0/TVO.
hey someone shared my upload! cool!
I recall watching a former Brisbane producer say they “looked to America” when it came to revamping their news production in the 80s. . .
Boy did TVO have so many intros during this time!
I remember on Mondays and Fridays they would have a sports presenter present the sport, instead of the newsreader presenting the sport. Rob Canning would do this on Fridays.
I also remember the late Charmaine Dragun would sometimes appear on the desk with Natarsha to present a report, while I also think she might’ve presented the bulletin from time to time in addition to her duties as co-presenter of Ten News Perth.
Those two ladies must’ve only crossed paths on-air briefly, as Charmaine passed away in late 2007 and that’s the year Natarsha took over from Tracy Spicer before going on maternity leave from late 2008 to mid 2009.
And a long day for Rob, as he also presented the standalone 30min ST bulletin as late as 11:30pm on Fridays. Maybe a split shift.
June 4, 1986 Eyewitness News update now up online.
Lindy Chamberlain, Paul Hogan, Tom Selleck, Terry Anderson stories.
(I’ve dated it as June 4th based on the Tom Selleck story, but I may be out by 1 day or so)
I reckon it might be a late news from Thursday 5 June. Ten used to show Night Court late on Thursday nights then, and that looks like a snippet from the start of Night Court at the end of that clip.
Natarsha was a regular presenter since the late 90s. Usually she’d do 11.30 two days a week, and Weekends one weekend a month, plus covering for Tracey and Sandra as needed, and reporting.
And she took a break from the national 5pm Weekend News around 2008 when Bill Woods (who’d already moved from Ten Sport into News with the 6am Early News with Kath Robinson in 2006) took over, while still leading network sport coverage. Belling also went on maternity leave. She returned in early-mid 2009 and took over the Weekend News as well as continuing on Morning News, as Woods had replaced Ron Wilson on Sydney’s 5pm news in January, while Wilson went to the Early News and Morning News on Thursdays and Fridays. Pretty sure Deb Knight did a bit of filling-in around this time too, also recall Sandra Sully went on leave and Kath Robinson was doing a bit of Late News including during Black Saturday.
Ten Eyewitness News (Late Editon) with Anne Fulwood from 1 March 1993 which includes a blooper at 14:05 where she seems to be not able to start a sentence:
sounds like the autocue let her down and she was getting instructions shouted through her earpiece?
Yeah, it seems like her autocue was going haywire and it wasn’t until she read her hard copy that she got what she needed to say.
This 2005-2008 Ten News theme I thought was great, at the end of this video with The Spice Girls reunion montage (from Ten’s Early News in 2007):

Feels like a more refined version of the graphics and theme they had from the late-90s into the mid-00s (though I still prefer the previous graphics and theme) but this is still very nice.
Ten got rid of the drums that era which lasted only 3 years
