As a “strategy” loading up on multiple repeats of the same show does seem to work. Viewers seems to hang around longer that than would otherwise for another episode. On some nights the later episode up against less competition rates higher. The 10.30pm -12.00 am produces 10’s highest share on these nights. Last week for example the network’s post 10.30pm share was 18%.
I’ve been guilty of bagging 10 in the past regarding the multiple airings of some shows (like Bull and NCIS on 10, Big Bang Theory on Peach etc). Then saw a few rankings for the late airings of these shows on the ratings threads, and often beat what was on offer against other networks. The early schedule let 10 down back then.
Then i backed off a little on bagging 10 (I still might make the random comment about endless airings here and there, but not as much as i used too. lol)
Very true
I was about to say pretty much exactly this, as you’ve highlighted this before.
As a strategy, this works with retention and keeping people watching in the same way that people binge watch shows back-to-back on streaming as someone is more likely to watch something when it’s essentially a subconscious continuation of what they were already watching.
For the people saying they should have have first run content this time of year, other than WILTY not returning this year, this is exactly the same schedule 10 have run for many years for Q1, so to expect more would be… crazy. HYBPA, Cheap Seats etc will return soon enough.
They have new content 7:30 pretty much week round with a good variety, afternoon news bulletin, neighbours in the early afternoons, new gameshow at 6pm, Ready Steady Cook launches soon to improve Fridays, and hopefully we see 10 Late News premiere soon as previously announced. I think 10 are batting above the average here, acknowledging that they’ll never compete with 7/9.
Whilst some programming decisions at 10 sometimes are questionable, I’m absolutely sure they’re pumping out as much new & local content as possible with the budgets they’ve been given and I’m not convinced throwing more money the network will yield the additional viewers/revenue to make it worthwhile or profitable.
I think is there was no writer’s strike, 10 would have gone for first run drama but most seasons are only 10 - 13 eps so they would be saving for Q2
Some of these shows are also kinda recent. NCIS Hawaii is only 2-3 years old, same with FBI international.
I cannot see this reported anywhere
Dog House now twice a week next week and Ambulance moves to 8.40pm
Wednesday 13 March
7:30 The Dog House Australia (ep 7 in season 4)
8:40 Ambulance Australia (ep 5 in season 5)
9:40 FBI: International (ep 10 of 22 in season 2)
10:40 FBI: International (repeat)
11:30 FBI: International (repeat)
Thursday 14 March
7:30 The Dog House Australia (ep 8 in season 4)
8:40 Gogglebox Australia (ep 4 in season 19)
9:40 Law & Order: SVU (repeat) (ep 22 of 22 in season 24) *Season Final
I think 10 wants to finish the current season of The Dog House Australia ahead of I’m a Celebrity, as the latter will take up the 7.30pm Thursday timeslot as well.
My guess is that its more to do with the shocking ratings for Ambulance. They wouldn’t care if they had leftover new episodes of Dog House because that is a show that can be utilized in any slot throughout the year. But yes because of the change it will mean that The Dog House is likely to play out if there are between 10 and 12 episodes.
Celebrity starts on 24 March, meaning Ambulance Australia and The Dog House Australia will be removed from the line-up. Both shows will have a couple of episodes each to play out later in the year.

Assuming this is the season final as I’m A “Celebrity” starts the following Sunday. Now confirmed.
Week of I’m a Celeb starting would be a great time to start the Late News, just saying…
Is the poor English for the title of Chen’s special and the synopsis supposed to be an in-joke for Chen or is it actually wrong?
I think the apostrophe is a typo but that is what the synopsis has.
I notice re-runs of Dr Phil and Judge Judy are still in 10’s daytime line-up, at varying timeslots. Do these still rate? Given both shows have well and truly wound up, they must still be airing them for a reason, unless it’s a CBS licensing thing.
Also notice 10 have stuck Ready Steady Cook encores in its old timeslot of 2pm (used to be DP midday, Oprah 1pm, RSC 2pm, JJ 3pm, children’s TV from 3:30pm interchanging with Huey’s cooking on some days, B&B 4:30pm and Ten News at Five 5pm. 10 daytime (post 12pm) used to be the most-watched back in the day, although probably Over 55s, even Ten Morning News and morning shows (like GMA and The Circle) used to give Seven and Nine a run for their money, especially pre TMS 2007. @TV.Cynic
