Supermarkets and Retail

I don’t know why people can’t go to 7-11 or the corner shop if there’s a handful if items they need.

No Coles or Woolies open at all in WA Today.

Hate to be pedantic but there’s some exclusions to this in rural LGAs within WA with fully deregulated trading hours (e.g. Eaton, Margaret River, Dunsborough, etc) in which Coles and Woolworths trade after Noon or 1pm.

I drove past a stand-alone Kmart today and was like 20 odd people hanging around out the front like 1130am. Drove past again at like 1245 and was like 100 plus people.

Madness. Can they not survive a day without Kmart? Could not think of anything worse by wasting a precious PH by shopping at Kmart.

When I was in town for the ANZAC Parade, I noticed a couple of people trying to go into the local Coles store not realising that it did not open until 1pm and they do voluntarily remain closed until 1pm as a sign of respect as I am in one of the NSW LGAs which are exempt from trading restrictions.

Pretty standard on ANZAC Day to have a crowd waiting when you open up at 1pm

Would it be duty free?

It’s part of what’s called DFO at the Skygate precinct near the airport - but not really duty free. The big attraction is a big outlet mall - Woolworths is in the adjacent Skygate shopping mall with a other normal retail shops. The factory outlets would have been extremely popular on a rainy ANZAC public holiday.

Seems to be a Toilet Paper shortage again. While at Woolies the store manager happened to be in front of the area he said his got nothing coming for the next 2-3 weeks. I bought the last one.

What’s the issue here? I thought we had that problem sorted? I guess a heads up to all, get it while you can.

I noticed there had been a shortage for about the last month in Sydney. Only this week have I seen stock on the shelf.

Never had an issue with my subscribe and save toilet paper deliveries from Amazon since I started them over a year ago.

this is the only woolies or coles open that day in all of Brisbane and is in fact the only 24 hour woolies / coles in Queensland as it sits on federal land.

it’s fine to say “plan ahead” but emergencies happen - ive done 2am drives to this woolies to pick up things when my kids were little because we ran out of formula for example

Woolworths in Australia owns Countdown in NZ . There seems to be issues with the two big supermarkets ripping people off in NZ. It has been said that it is due to lack of competition in NZ. Woolworths is just doing similar to what used to happen pre 2010 in Australia in another country with Foodstuffs isn’t it . Between them they have 80 percent of the market.Feels similar to what we had in Australia . Aldi isn’t coming to NZ anytime soon .I saw an article online about people buying stuff online from Amazon in Australia sent to NZ some dry grocery items and saved some money.

I notice the Turkish Bakeries Stone Baked Pizza bases have finally returned back online at Woolworths in my part of Qld after disappearing for months online (claimed it was out of stock Australia wide ) even when it was low in stock or high in stock in store. I always had to make a trip instore just to pick them up then buy about 4 of them and freeze them.

Only thing now that seems online only in my area is the Inghams Turkey Drumsticks… my dog eats those in 14minutes frozen raw lol . Notice they only ever have about 4 or 5 containers . Might be a COVID19 related supply issue.

Grocery shopping is something in the last 3 years I have gone online with (even before COVID19) can’t get any enjoyment out of browsing isles looking for stuff , waiting at a checkout with people in front of me lol. . I just want to get what I need and get out . If i did an instore shop I would be longer in the store. We only have 1 Woolworths in our town of 20,000.

. Buying clothes i would like to shop instore but in my town they seem to only have Rockmans, Jay Jays, 2 surf shops and then clothing stores for young women. The only option other than driving 40km to another town oddly has been Vinnies which seems to have near new stuff for $5 or less. Doesn’t even look like second hand and seems to cater to everyone.

I notice that Coles in Forest Hill and the recently opened Blackburn Square in Melbourne’s east have added a refrigerated display cabinet near the checkouts, selling pre-made mochis and macarons. Are they available in Coles supermarkets in other parts of Victoria or even interstate?

I’ve seen them in many NSW stores for a year or two.

Are these new Coles stores using the new electronic ticketing? My local WOW has just had an upgrade and the whole store has electronic ticketing. I would imagine they would save a shitload in paper and labour by no more ticketing.

Wasn’t sure if it’s just a Woolworths thing here. I’ve seen it all over the UK and other places.

Only to be replaced by costs of repairs when they break down.

ive seen these in a few coles in Brisbane - Coles Local Albert St def has them

Coles Waurn Ponds (Geelong) added these a couple of months ago
