Interesting that Harvey is engaging in this type of language, isn’t his model built in being landlord and wholesaler to individual businesses under the one roof?
Then again, crikey! Maybe’s calling him out on twitter

Yeah, I think a major reason why Myer & David Jones haven’t been doing that well lately has nothing to do with a diverse corporate governance (which is fairly important in this day and age) and a lot to do with their general reputation for being rather “upmarket” and “elitist” which is in contrast to current consumer trends.
At the moment, people seem to just want cheaper stuff. The likes of K-Mart & Bunnings know this, with their advertising campaigns being heavily focused on low prices. JB Hi-Fi probably also benefits from their fairly “no frills” branding and advertising.
… except I think that if a company finds a retail niche where customers will pay more for quality.
Accent Group who own The Athletes Foot, Hype DC, Skechers and Platypus shoes stores are doing rather well.
Apart from when sold by larger fashion retailers like ASOS, online shoe retailing doesn’t often have free returns which means the masses still prefer bricks and mortar when buying shoes so they can try them on first.
i’m not sure thats it to be honest. i’m a perfect myers / dj shopper - a white collar professional with a good amount of disposable income. But i don’t shop at either shop because too many times i have tried to do so but i’ve either been unable to find anyone to help me or been ignored by staff because i don’t “look” like i can afford to buy items from them.
When the stuff i buy is available elsewhere at the same price or slightly cheaper with better customer service it’s really a no brainer avoid these shops.
let me give you an example. about a year ago i was looking for an apple pencil for my ipad pro. I went to Myer as i had a giftcard. I couldn’t find anyone to serve me, but i went 750m down the road to the apple shop. i was in and out in 10 mins with the pencil - i paid the same price i would have paid at myer but i didn’t feel like i was bothering the sales staff to do there job, no one in apple looked down there nose at me and i could actually make the purchase.
Saw a new TV ad for MyCar last night. MyCar is the rebranded Kmart Auto and Tyre Service after Wesfarmers sold the business to Germany’s Continental Group last year.
Another clothing chain is closing.
Well that’s some good news.
TK Maxx advertising Halloween supplies on Brisbane radio today.
Well it’s not really that far away now.
Heck, Christmas will be here before we know it!
Strange thing to spend advertising dollars on. Didn’t even mention locations; I find a lot who have not heard of the chain or where the closest store is.
Christmas stock has already been delivered where I work
Myers put their Christmas stock out last month
Coles had their mince pies out about 3 or 4 weeks ago at my local.
Which they gloated about on social media (total PR bait, that some sections of the media swallowed hook line and sinker).
Such a shame as they’ve supplied clothing and other fashion things for media people such as presenters.
A new SpudShed store will open in Thornlie the day after tomorrow.
Sounds like a potato shop.
