Originally I thought upmarket like Bigw is to Kmart in that they sell brands. Kmart has a no name toaster for $20 but you can get a Branded one at Bigw for $30. Pay an extra $5 at Bigw and get a tontine pillow etc…But they are throwing Myer and Country Rd names out there which is dangerous. David Jones has tried and failed at its attempt to private label high price its new strategy.
Target is just worthless, and if they dropped of the earth tomorrow nobody would even know.
Massive upside for BIGW here and I hope they crush them cause they deserve it.
Why didn’t Wesfarmers try and just sell it off if it’s really impacting Kmart. Clearly that’s the agenda here, the recent Kmart decline is coming out of Targets growth. Essentially Kmarts earnings were starting to drift into Target but not converting into profit or growing, just more Target red ink.
I definitely like the look and feel of the newer Target stores, like the one at Chadstone. They just need to get the balance right so they are not too upmarket like David Jones but have a bit more of a point of difference to Kmart and Big W which the stores really look cheap and tacky.
Coles at The Glen has a similar look. However, the cheeses are still at the deli, while a lot of space at the display has been allocated to grab and go meals.
I drive past it every day for work, and they have cleared the plot of land and got a quick start on construction. It’s a good thing they’re not opening it around Christmas, because the traffic issues that the adjacent DFO caused during it’s grand opening and Boxing Day sales caused some major problems for access to Qantas terminals in Perth last year.
As the article also details, they should have a second location up and running by the end of next year too.
