Since target is closing in Mildura
What do you think is the next target store in Victoria to shut down?
I think it could possibly be Somerville or Chirnside Park to close their Target store in the future, even though I haven’t been to both stores though but not sure yet
I Think Chirnside Park will probably be replaced with TK Maxx Even because big W is in Lilydale for the Yarra ranges area And Somerville might possibly become a Kmart.

Do you know, does Big Dubs do a Lil Dubs? Similar to how K Mart has K Hub? A smaller version of Big Dubs could work in Horsham. Selling 30 packs of Pepsi Max for $23 lower prices every day, but without the photo shop, printing and baby cots.

As mentioned in Supermarkets and Retail - #11086 by Arno6, Shell Coles Express Strathfield was closed and refurbished into Shell OTR Strathfield, the 2nd Sydney site.

Shell OTR Lane Cove was opened as a Store24 initially before the Viva acquisition of OTR.

Quite a hit, I’d say further EBIT deterioration will occur over the coming weeks, the rebuilding phase plus the customer issue. Markdowns will now become a problem as they will be holding way too much seasonal.

Woolworths will no doubt want to pull some of this back so no doubt many levers will be pulled in H2 to pull back some lost EBIT.

Woolworths will have thousands of frozen hams and turkeys that must be sold before Christmas Day, otherwise it will have to cut them up and sell them in small packs in early 2025, or donate surplus items to charities, or on-sell them to third-party manufacturers which will turn them into frozen meals.

They do not “cut up” pre-packaged food.

Katies to be wound down, nearly 500 jobs to go

Katies is an Australian institution. It is a foundation of our high street. A part of our great retail culture. It’s as Australian as RM Williams, Country Road and Dick Smith. So sad to see it go.

Myer citing tough trading conditions, seems like they are heading for a loss making year. However, the new boss is saying a lot of right things, and seems to be moving it down the right path. I don’t know how they intend to curb theft though. I was in one of the change rooms last week and found at least $500 worth of stolen goods in the change room. I also noted another person the other month literally shove hundreds of dollars of clothing in a target bag. They don’t do bag checks on exit. The stores are too big, people will do whatever.

I am disappointed that the receivers and managers KPMG decided to shut down Katies rather than selling it.

Katies could probably be rejuvenated, the other brands in the mosaic group not so much.

They will have issues in the whole group with suppliers cutting them off. With 4 months being passed since, and stock ordered around 8-12 months ahead, they will have issues next year.

I can’t see much in the way of the remaining brands ever being sustainable.

That’s the thing - you run these on skeleton staff, so there isn’t the expectation that someone will see you.

The biggest deterrent against theft is that customer interaction - having someone come up and ask if they can help you, guide you to a product - it’s very hard to then stuff that item in your bag and run away.

It would be more viable to sell the brand rather than the baggage of a failing store network
